For a 3440RH strike you order the left hand solenoid. ROFU reverses the handing call-out on the replacement solenoid: LH solenoids go into models 3430RH, 3440RH, 3460B/LH and 3470B/LH, while RH solenoids go into 3401, 3430LH, 3440LH, 3460B/RH and 3470B/RH. Ordering by the strike's handing label instead of the solenoid's will get you the wrong part.
2) My ROFU electric strike won't pull in anymore - do I replace the solenoid or the whole strike body?
If the strike body, keeper and faceplate are sound and only the electrical actuation has failed, the ROFU 3400 solenoid is the replacement coil for ROFU strikes and is rated for continuous duty on VDC only, ordered by handing and by 12 VDC or 24 VDC. Trine 4800 and 4850 series openings are served by their own parts, such as the 4800-AK accessories kit and the 4850-ITL installation tool for 4850 series strikes. Match the solenoid to the ROFU model number stamped on the strike you are repairing.
4) What does continuous duty mean for a ROFU 3400 electric strike solenoid on a door held unlocked all day?
Continuous duty means the coil can stay energized indefinitely without overheating, so it suits a fail secure opening that is signaled unlocked for long periods, like a lobby door on a daytime schedule. It is DC only, so it has to be fed from a filtered DC supply at 12 or 24 volts.
