1) Will a ROFU 8035 mini shear lock work on a pair of interior double doors?
That is exactly what the 8035 Mini Shear Lock is built for. It is a fail-safe magnetic shear lock designed for dual swinging interior doors, and it mortises into the door and frame rather than surface mounting on the pull side, so nothing hangs into the opening on either leaf. It can be set horizontally or vertically depending on how the frame is prepped, and it holds 1200 lb.
2) What happens to a ROFU 8035 shear lock when the power drops or the fire alarm trips?
It unlocks. The 8035 is fail-safe, so it releases instantly the moment power is disconnected, and it can be released on activation of the fire alarm. Plan the opening around that: if you need the door to stay locked through a power loss, a shear lock is the wrong device type and you want a fail-secure electric strike or lock instead.
3) Do I have to order the ROFU 8035 in 12V or 24V?
Neither. Voltage is field selectable on the 8035, 12 or 24 VDC, set at install, so one part number covers both. Current draw is 420 mA at 12 VDC and 210 mA at 24 VDC. Size your supply off whichever you pick, and note the 24V setting halves the load if you are running several locks off one power supply.
4) What is the difference between the two ROFU 8035 versions?
There are two: the standard 8035 and the 8035-002. The -002 adds monitoring and a magnetic bond sensor output, an SPDT contact rated 0.5 A at 125 VAC or 1 A at 24 VDC. If your access control panel or head end needs to know the lock is actually bonded to the armature, order the monitored version. If the lock just takes a power feed and nothing reports back, the standard version does the job.
5) How much door gap can a ROFU 8035 mini shear lock tolerate?
2 mm maximum between the magnet and the armature plate. Shear locks are unforgiving that way, and a warped leaf or a sagging closer that opens the gap past 2 mm will cost you holding force. If the doors do not close consistently tight, get them adjusted before the lock goes in.
6) Can I mount a ROFU 8035 on an aluminum glass door with narrow stiles?
Yes. The 8035 is built for narrow frames and glass door installation, and the compact body is the reason: the magnet measures 7 1/16 x 1 3/16 x 1 1/16 inches and the armature plate 7 1/16 x 1 3/16 x 1 11/16 inches. Confirm your header and top rail can take a mortise pocket of that footprint before you cut.
7) What if I cannot mortise the door for a ROFU 8035?
Order it with a surface mount housing. Three bracket options pair with the 8035 and 8035-002: the 21036 surface mount housing (pair), the 21054 tamper proof surface mount housing (pair), and the 21037 U-bracket (pair), which is used together with the 21036. Brackets are a separate line item, so add them to the order if the frame will not take a pocket.
8) The opening is a single outswing door, not a pair of swinging doors - what mini maglock works instead of the ROFU 8035?
The ROFU 8035 is designed for dual swinging interior doors and mounts by mortising into the frame or header, with the magnet and armature shearing against each other. On a single outswing door, the DynaLock 2511 single mini electromagnetic lock is the applicable format - it is built for outswing and for a single leaf, at 650 lb hold. A contractor holding a drawing that calls for a mini maglock on a single outswing leaf should be ordering the 2511 family; the 8035 belongs on the dual swinging opening, including narrow frames and glass door installations.
9) Is a shear lock or a surface maglock better for my opening?
A shear lock like the ROFU 8035 goes into the door and frame, so it disappears from view and works where a surface maglock and its L-bracket would foul the swing, which is why it suits dual swinging doors and glass storefront. The tradeoff is prep: you cut the door and header, and you live with a 2 mm maximum gap. A surface maglock is far easier to retrofit and more tolerant of door alignment, but it is visible and it wants a single-direction swing. Choose the 8035 when appearance or a double-acting leaf rules out surface mounting.
10) Both the ROFU 8035 and the DynaLock 2511 are called mini electromagnetic locks - can I swap one for the other in the same prep?
They are not interchangeable in an existing prep. The ROFU 8035 is a mini shear lock: it mortises into the frame and holds against an armature plate with a maximum 2 mm gap, magnet 7-1/16 in x 1-3/16 in x 1-1/16 in and armature plate 7-1/16 in x 1-3/16 in x 1-11/16 in, and it is fail-safe on field-selectable 12/24 VDC. The two carry different holding force and different door-swing applications, so a prep cut for one is not a prep for the other - confirm the swing and the cutout before substituting.
11) Will the ROFU 8035 leave the door dragging or stuck after it releases?
No residual magnetism on the 8035, so the armature lets go clean when power drops rather than clinging to the magnet. The magnet and armature are zinc plated.
12) Does the ROFU 8035 need batteries or its own power at the door?
