ROFU 9350 US28 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What plate size does the ROFU 9350 push button come with, and will it cover an existing single-gang cutout?
The ROFU 9300 Series REX buttons come with either a standard plate measuring 4-3/4 x 3 x 1/4 inches or a narrow plate measuring 4-3/4 x 1-5/8 x 1/4 inches. The standard plate is the same footprint as a common single-gang plate, so it covers a standard gang box opening; the narrow plate is for tight door frames and mullions where there isn't 3 inches of width. The cover plate is 1/4 inch thick aluminum.
2) Is the ROFU 9350 request-to-exit button a momentary or maintained switch, and can it control two circuits?
It's a DPDT push button, so it switches two independent circuits from the one actuation, which is what you want when you have to drop a mag lock and signal a panel or alarm shunt at the same time. Button color options tell you the intended action: red for MOM (momentary), and red, orange or green for MAIN (maintained).
3) Can I get a timer built into the ROFU 9350 so the mag lock stays released for a few seconds?
Yes. An electronic time delay is available as an option on the 9300 Series, with relocking time adjustable from 1 to 30 seconds. Specify it when ordering, since the base button is a straight DPDT switch with no delay.
4) What is the difference between the ROFU 9350 push button and the Detex PB-2100 push button control?
Both are request-to-exit push button controls for electronic access control openings, but they are built differently. The ROFU 9350 is a 2 inch square blue illuminated DPDT push button mounted on a 1/4 inch thick tamper-resistant aluminum cover plate, supplied with two snake eyes security screws and a wrench, and it is offered in US28 aluminum or US40 dark anodized bronze. The Detex PB-2100 series control is supplied with a shroud around the button and Form C terminals for wiring. If you want a guarded button that resists accidental actuation, the shrouded Detex is the one to look at; if you want a flush illuminated button on a security-screwed aluminum plate, the ROFU 9350 is the match.
5) Is the Detex PB-2100 a drop-in replacement for a ROFU 9350 button?
Treat it as a functional alternative rather than a drop-in. The ROFU 9350 mounts behind a standard 4-3/4 inch x 3 inch x 1/4 inch plate (a 4-3/4 inch x 1-5/8 inch narrow plate is also part of the 9300 series) and fastens with two snake eyes security screws. The Detex PB-2100 series control is a shrouded button with Form C terminals and does not share that plate pattern, so expect to re-cut or cover the existing opening. If you are replacing a failed 9350 and want the existing box and screw holes to line up, stay within the ROFU 9300 series.
6) I need the exit button itself to hold the door unlocked for a set time - does either the ROFU 9350 or the Detex PB-2138-3 do that at the button?
The ROFU 9350 is the one to specify for that. The 9300 series offers an optional electronic time delay with an adjustable relocking time of 1 to 30 seconds built into the button, plus an optional LED indicator for on/off position, so the timing lives at the device instead of in the panel. The Detex PB-2138-3 is a push button control with a shroud and Form C terminals, so timing on that one is handled by whatever it is wired into.
7) What finish is the ROFU 9350, and what's the other finish choice in the 9300 Series?
The 9350 as ordered is US28, clear aluminum. The 9300 Series is also offered in US40, dark anodized bronze. If you're standardizing exit buttons across a building with dark frames, order the US40 version instead so the plates match.
8) Is the ROFU 9350 exit button tamper resistant enough for a public corridor or a school?
That's what it's built for. The cover plate is 1/4 inch thick aluminum and it ships with two snake eyes security screws plus the wrench to drive them, so it can't be removed with a common driver. It's a commercial-rated device, not a residential one.
9) Does the ROFU 9350 have any UL recognition?
The 9300 Series buttons are UL Recognized Components. That is a component recognition, not a standalone listing for the finished assembly, so the overall access control system still has to be evaluated on its own.
10) Can I get an LED on the button to show whether the door is locked or unlocked?
Yes, an LED indicator for on/off position is an optional feature on the 9300 Series and has to be specified as an added part when you order. The standard push button itself is blue colored and illuminated.
11) I need a request-to-exit button with dry contacts that can both make and break a circuit - does the ROFU 9350 work or should I use the Detex PB-2138-3?
Either can be wired for that. The ROFU 9350 uses a DPDT switch, which gives you two sets of transfer contacts so you can break a mag lock circuit and signal a panel at the same time. The Detex PB-2138-3 is supplied with Form C terminals, which is the same normally-open/normally-closed transfer arrangement brought out to terminal connections. The practical choice comes down to trim: the ROFU 9350 is an illuminated button on a 1/4 inch aluminum plate in US28 or US40, while the Detex is a shrouded button control.
12) For an interior exit door where the button gets bumped by carts, which control holds up better - the ROFU 9350 or the Detex shrouded button?
The Detex PB-2100 series control is supplied with a shroud, which surrounds the button and shields it from being struck directly, so it suits high-traffic corridors and loading areas where passing equipment contacts the wall. The ROFU 9350 answers the same problem differently: the button sits on a 1/4 inch thick tamper-resistant aluminum cover plate secured with snake eyes security screws, and it is illuminated so it stays findable in a dim corridor. Choose the shroud if accidental actuation is the concern and the ROFU if tamper resistance and visibility are.
13) Do I need to specify the push button color separately on a ROFU 9300 exit switch?
Only if you want something other than the standard. Every 9300 Series switch ships with a blue button unless you call out a color: red for momentary, or red, orange or green for maintained. On a site where blue already means request-to-exit, leave it standard so the whole building reads the same.
