Securitron PB2E – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What's the difference between the Securitron PB2, PB22 and PB2E push buttons?
All three are 2 inch square momentary exit buttons on a single gang plate. The PB2 is illuminated with a 5 A rated SPDT relay. The PB22 is illuminated with a 5 A rated DPDT relay, so it gives you a second set of contacts to drive a second device (an alarm shunt or an aux input) off the same press. The PB2E is the non-illuminated version with an SPDT relay. If you already bought PB2E buttons and later want them lit, the PB2-LK illumination kit fits the PB2E, PB5E and EEB2 series.
2) Will a Securitron PB2 push button fit a standard single gang box?
Yes. The PB2 series mounts on a stainless steel single gang plate measuring 4-1/2 x 2-3/4 inches (114mm x 70mm), so it drops onto a standard single gang electrical box or mud ring.
3) What voltage does the Securitron PB2 exit button run on, and how much current does it draw?
The PB2 series runs on 12 or 24 VDC. Illumination draws 29 mA at 12 VDC and 40 mA at 24 VDC, so budget that on your power supply if you're running a bank of them off one supply. The non-illuminated PB2E has no such draw.
4) Can the PB2 button switch a maglock directly, or do I need a relay in line?
The contacts are rated 5 A, which covers the current of typical low voltage DC locking devices wired through the button. The PB2 and PB2E give you a single pole double throw contact set, so you get both a normally closed and a normally open path from one press. The PB22's DPDT set adds a second independent contact if you need to break lock power and signal an access panel at the same time.
5) Does the Securitron PB2 come with an ADA handicap lens, or is that ordered separately?
Switchable green, red and blue ADA lenses ship with the button, and the models are listed as Green/Red/Handicap. You swap the lens in the field to match the building's convention, so you don't have to decide the color at order time.
6) Can I use a Securitron PB2 push button outdoors or on an exterior door?
Not as-is. For exterior or wash-down locations, Securitron offers the WCC and WBB weather options, which cover all single gang push buttons, keyswitches and keypads including the PB2. Specify the weather option with the button rather than mounting a bare plate outside.
7) Is the PB2 a momentary button or does it latch?
Momentary on all three models, PB2, PB22 and PB2E. The contacts transfer only while the button is held, which is what you want for a request-to-exit or door release running through a closer or an access control timer. If you need a maintained on/off hold state, this is the wrong button type.
8) Is the Securitron PB2 push button rated for commercial traffic, and what is the plate made of?
It's a commercial grade device with a stainless steel single gang plate, which is what holds up in a lobby, stairwell or corridor with constant exit traffic. Illuminated models also carry a red LED on the plate where applicable, giving a visible indication at the opening.
