1) What is the difference between the Securitron PB and PBA push buttons?
Both are single gang illuminated push buttons with a DPST switch, and the switching action is the only difference. The PB is momentary, so the contacts transfer only while the button is held, which is what you want for a normal request-to-exit release that relets the lock as soon as the button is let go. The PBA is alternate action, meaning one press latches the state and the next press returns it, so it works as an on/off hold-open control for a mag lock or strike.
2) Will a Securitron PB push button work on a 12VDC mag lock circuit, or does it need 24V?
Either. The PB Series runs on 12 or 24VDC, drawing 5 mA for the illumination, so it drops onto whatever the mag lock or strike power supply is already putting out. The switch itself is dry DPST rated 7 amps, so it can break the lock current directly rather than only signalling a controller.
3) What size box do I need for a Securitron PB exit push button?
It mounts to a standard single gang box. The stainless steel plate measures 4.5 x 2.75 inches (114mm x 70mm), and the button itself is 1/2 inch.
4) Can I change the Securitron PB button from red to green after it is installed?
Yes, both colors ship in the box. The PB and PBA include switchable green and red buttons, so you can set the lens to match whatever the rest of the openings in the building use without ordering a separate part. There is also a red LED on the plate itself.
5) Can a Securitron PB push button be used outdoors or in a wet location?
Not as it ships. The PB and PBA are single gang devices, and Securitron offers the WCC and WBB weather options for all single gang push buttons, keyswitches and keypads. Order the weather cover along with the button for any exterior or wash-down location.
6) Can one push button release the lock and signal the alarm panel at the same time?
Yes. The switch is DPST, so you get two independent sets of contacts on one press: one pole can break power to the mag lock or electric strike while the second sends a shunt or request-to-exit signal to the access control or alarm panel. Each pole is rated 7 amps.
7) Is the Securitron PB Series rated for commercial door traffic, or is it a residential button?
It is a commercial-duty device, built with a stainless steel single gang plate and 7 amp rated contacts for access control openings in offices, healthcare, schools and multi-family common areas.
