Klein Tools 55604 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How many pockets does the Klein Tools 55604 rolling tool backpack have, and will it hold long hand tools?
28 pockets total on the Klein 55604: 25 inside and 3 on the exterior. The main compartment is open enough for large hand tools, and total capacity is 1330 cubic inches (23 quarts). Overall it measures 25.5 inches high, 17.5 inches long and 10.25 inches wide, so longer tools like levels or long-reach pliers go in the main cavity rather than the sleeves.
2) Can the 55604 be carried as a backpack as well as rolled?
Both. It has padded shoulder straps plus a telescoping handle, and you switch over by extending the handle and stowing the straps behind the back padding, so nothing dangles into the wheels. Empty weight is 13.8 lb, which is worth knowing if you plan to carry it loaded up a ladder or several flights, rolling is the easier mode for that kind of load.
3) Will the wheels on this Klein rolling tool bag handle a job site that isn't paved yet?
The 55604 runs 3-inch heavy-duty wheels rated to truck through unpaved paths, and the bottom is hard molded polypropylene, fully enclosed, so setting it down on mud or gravel doesn't soak through the fabric. The handle wraps along the sides of the bag for support when you're pulling it around corners.
4) Does the headlamp come with the Klein 55604 rolling backpack?
No. The bag has a bracket that holds a Klein headlamp so you can aim it into the bag's interior or out at the work area, but the headlamp is sold separately. Klein lists Cat. Nos. 56062 and 56049 as the headlamps that fit the bracket, so order one of those alongside it if you want that function.
5) Is the Klein 55604 waterproof, or just water resistant?
Water resistant, not waterproof. The body is 1680d ballistic weave described as durable and water resistant, and the molded bottom protects against ground water and the elements. That covers rain on the walk from the truck and a wet slab, but it is not a bag to leave out in a downpour or stand in standing water.
6) Can I lock this tool bag up overnight on site?
The main zipper uses lockable zipper pulls, so you can run a small padlock through them to deter casual pilfering. The lock itself is not included. It is a deterrent on a soft-sided bag, not a substitute for a job box if you're leaving high-value meters or cordless tools unattended.
7) Will the 55604 fit in a van shelf or behind a truck seat?
Plan around 25.5 x 17.5 x 10.25 inches overall, with the 25.5 inch figure being the height including the wheels and handle housing. The 10.25 inch width is the dimension that decides whether it slots upright into a narrow van shelf bay; laid on its back it needs about 17.5 by 25.5 inches of floor.
8) Where do I keep a phone and safety glasses so they don't get crushed in a tool bag?
The 55604 has a hard, molded front pocket specifically for that, items like a phone or safety glasses sit in a rigid shell rather than against wrenches. It is one of the 3 exterior pockets on the bag.
9) What color is the Klein 55604, and will it match the rest of our Klein bag kit?
Black with orange trim, the same scheme Klein uses across its tradesman tool bag line, so it reads as part of the same fleet if your crews are already carrying Klein storage. Part number is 55604.
