Easy-to-use push button with cover allows urgent reaction during an emergency. This ADA Compliant, multipurpose push button switch with EMERGENCY EXIT label protects a wide range of applications indoors. 1) Can the STI 3150 Weather Stopper be mounted outdoors or in a wash-down area?
No. The 3150 Weather Stopper is an indoor-only device, and it is specifically not recommended for outdoor or water applications. The button operates between 15 and 120 degrees F (-9 to +49 C), so an unheated loading dock or an exterior wall is outside what it is rated for. If the opening is exposed to weather or hose-down, this is the wrong call point.
2) Does the STI 3150 have a built-in horn or sounder?
There is no sounder in the 3150. It is the version without a horn, so lifting the cover does not make any local noise on its own. Alarm indication has to come from the system it is wired into. If you want the cover lift itself to sound locally and deter tampering at the door, you need a Stopper II model that includes a horn.
3) What does the clear spacer on the STI 3150 do, and do I need it for surface conduit?
The spacer is a 50mm clear conduit spacer with frame, and it ships in the box with a gasket. It lifts the housing off the wall so surface-run conduit or EMT can enter behind the unit instead of forcing you to cut into the wall. On a block or concrete corridor wall where everything is surface run, that spacer is what makes the install work. Mount it vertically, which is the orientation STI recommends.
4) Does the STI 3150 push button need power or a separate power supply run to it?
No power run to the device. The 3150 uses a pneumatic adjustable timer, so nothing electrical is needed to operate the button or the timing itself. You only bring the circuit you are switching. That matters on a retrofit where there is no low-voltage feed at the door, and it keeps the device working when building power drops.
5) Can I use the STI 3150 to hold a maglock released for a set number of seconds?
Yes, and that is what the pneumatic timer is for. It opens or closes a circuit and then delays before resetting, adjustable from 2 to 60 seconds with a 15 percent tolerance. Wire the maglock through the N.C. contact and set the dwell long enough for someone to get through the opening. The contact block is 1 Form Z, giving you one normally open and one normally closed contact, so you can drop the lock and signal the alarm panel off the same press.
