Sargent 25RP9 EN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Sargent 25RP9 arm fit a 1431 Series door closer?
Yes. The 25RP9 is built as a genuine replacement parallel arm for the Sargent 1431 Series closer, so it drops onto an existing 1431 body without changing the closer out. If the closer on your door is a different Sargent series, the arm is not the right part for it.
2) Do I need to replace the whole door closer if the arm is bent or broken?
No. On a Sargent 1431 Series closer, the 25RP9 wrought parallel arm replaces just the arm and restores full function, so the closer body, mounting holes and existing door prep all stay as they are. That is the point of the part.
3) Is the 25RP9 a parallel arm or a regular arm?
Parallel. It mounts the closer on the push side with the arm running parallel to the face of the door, which keeps a low profile and keeps the arm out of the opening. If your 1431 is mounted regular arm on the pull side, a parallel arm is not the correct replacement for that installation.
4) Will the black powder coat arm match the rest of my Sargent closer?
If the closer body was ordered in black, yes, the BSP black suede powder coat arm is the matching option. For the more common aluminum-finish closers, order the EN sprayed aluminum enamel arm; that is the factory finish used on standard 1431 Series hardware and it keeps the opening looking uniform across a building.
5) Is the Sargent 25RP9 arm rated for commercial traffic?
It is a commercial door hardware part, wrought construction, and Sargent lists it for commercial use rather than residential. Facilities buyers use it on office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government openings.
