    1) What does fail-secure mean on the Sargent 8974 exit device, and can people still get out if the power drops?
    Fail-secure means the electrified ET lever trim on the outside stays locked when power is removed, so nobody gets in from the pull side during an outage. Egress is never affected. The push rail is purely mechanical, so anyone inside pushes the rail and walks out whether the building has power or not.
