1) Will a Sargent 34 rim cylinder work with my existing Sargent RG keyway master key system?
The 34-RG-32D is cut on the RG keyway, so it drops into an existing Sargent RG keying system and can be worked into an RG master key program. It ships factory bitted with 2 nickel silver keys, which means it arrives on its own random cut, not on your system's bitting. A locksmith rekeys the 6-pin plug to your change key and master before it goes in the door. If your building is keyed on a different Sargent keyway, this cylinder is the wrong one to order.
2) What is the difference between a rim cylinder and a mortise cylinder, and which one does my exit device take?
A rim cylinder like the Sargent 34 mounts from the inside face of the door with a back plate and two machine screws, and drives the lock through a flat tailpiece. A mortise cylinder threads into the lock body and drives a cam instead. No. Factory bitted means each cylinder ships pre-cut on its own bitting with 2 nickel silver keys, not matched to each other.
