1) Will a Sargent XC 11-40 mortise cylinder work in my existing Sargent lock, or do I have to rekey the whole building?
The XC 11-40 integrates with most existing SARGENT systems, and that is the point of the XC design: the specially designed XC keys operate both XC cylinders and conventional cylinders in one key system. So you can put XC cylinders on the openings that need the bump resistance and key-control level, leave conventional Sargent cylinders on the rest, and still carry one key. Match the keyway to what your system already uses, LA through LL.
2) Which cam do I order with a Sargent XC 11-40 cylinder?
Cam is a required choice on the 11-40: Standard, 101, 105, 106, 112 or 113. Ordered as Standard, the cylinder ships with the SARGENT offset cam 13-0664. The cam is what drives the lock case, so it has to match the lock you are installing into, not the cylinder. If you are replacing a cylinder in a Sargent mortise lock, pull the old one and copy its cam; if you are feeding a non-Sargent mortise case or an exit device trim, the cam number is dictated by that device.
3) Which Sargent keyway should I order if I am adding doors to a building we already key?
The 11-40 is available in nine Sargent keyways: LA, which is the standard, plus LB, LC, LE, LF, LG, LJ, LK and LL. Adding to an existing system means ordering the same keyway letter the building is already on, otherwise the new cylinders will not accept the keys your staff carry.
