Satco Lighting 80-979 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Satco 80-979 include a light bulb or socket?
No. The 80-979 is a deep baffle trim only, the ring and baffle cone that finishes the ceiling opening. You supply the housing, the socket or retrofit module, and the lamp separately.
2) Is the Satco 80-979 a metal trim or plastic?
It is molded polycarbonate with a brushed nickel finish, not spun metal. The whole trim weighs 0.15 lb, so it hangs off standard torsion springs or friction clips without loading the housing. Polycarbonate will not dent if it gets knocked during ceiling work, but it also means you should not expect a machined metal edge where a designer spec calls for one.
3) Why choose a deep baffle trim instead of a standard baffle or a reflector trim?
A deep baffle like the 80-979 pushes the lamp farther up into the ceiling, so the source is out of normal sight lines and you get less glare, at the cost of some light output. A reflector trim does the opposite, maximizing delivered lumens but showing more brightness at the aperture. For offices, corridors, and hospitality spaces where occupants look toward the ceiling, the 1.97 inch deep baffle is the usual pick.
