Satco Lighting S12463 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the Satco S12463 A19 LED replace a 60W incandescent bulb?
Yes. The S12463 draws 8 watts and puts out 800 lumens, which Satco rates as a 60W incandescent equivalent. At 3000K it's a warm white, a little crisper than the 2700K soft white most old 60W incandescents produced, so if you're relamping a building in stages the color will read slightly different next to the leftovers.
2) Will this Satco 8W A19 LED work in an enclosed ceiling fixture or a closed outdoor lantern?
It will. The S12463 is an enclosed rated lamp and carries a wet location rating, so a sealed dome, a jelly jar, or a closed porch lantern are all fair game. Burning position is universal, meaning base up, base down, or horizontal all work without shortening lamp life.
3) Is the Satco S12463 dimmable, and will it work on my existing dimmer?
The lamp is dimmable on 120V, 60Hz line voltage. One thing to plan for: it pulls 0.067A, so a four-lamp fixture is under a third of an amp. Older magnetic or incandescent-rated dimmers have a minimum load that a handful of these won't reach, which shows up as flicker or drop-out at the bottom of the dial. On a retrofit, a modern LED-rated dimmer is the fix.
4) Why does this bulb look like an old-fashioned filament bulb, and will the filaments be visible in an open fixture?
It's an LED filament lamp in a clear glass envelope, so the filament strips are visible and you get the sparkle of a vintage-style bulb rather than the diffuse look of a frosted LED. Good in chandeliers, exposed-socket pendants and open shades where the bulb is on display. If you don't want visible filaments or glare from a bare socket, choose a frosted A19 instead.
5) Is this Satco LED good enough for retail display or hospitality lighting where color accuracy matters?
CRI is 90, which is the usual threshold specified for retail, hospitality and healthcare work where skin tones and merchandise color have to read correctly. Combined with the 3000K warm white, it suits lobbies, guest rooms and dining spaces.
6) How long will these last in a common-area fixture that runs long hours?
Average rated life is 15,000 hours. On a corridor or exterior fixture running roughly 12 hours a night, that works out to about three and a half years between relamps, which is why property managers buying in volume tend to standardize on one lamp across a building.
7) Can this bulb be used as a three-way or does it change color temperature?
No on both counts. The S12463 is a single-output 3000K lamp with no color temperature selection and no three-way operation, so it will not step through low/medium/high in a three-way socket. If you need selectable CCT or 3-way function, specify a lamp built for it.
8) How many bulbs come with Satco S12463?
S12463 is sold as a 4-pack of the 8W clear A19 LED. For a multi-unit or MRO relamp, count fixtures and divide by four when you build the order.
9) Does the Satco S12463 qualify for a DLC utility rebate?
It is not DLC approved, so it won't qualify under programs that require a DesignLights Consortium listing. The lamp is FCC compliant and marked lawful for sale in California.
