Satco Lighting S13167 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Satco S13167 LED lamp need the existing HID ballast removed?
Yes. The S13167 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so it runs on line voltage directly and the existing HID ballast has to be removed or bypassed. It accepts 100V to 277V at 50/60Hz, which covers most commercial fixture circuits. Leaving the ballast in place will damage the lamp.
2) Will the S13167 fit a standard mogul socket, or does it need something different?
It uses an extended mogul base, not a standard mogul. The extension is there to clear the neck of the fixture on HID retrofits, so socket depth and the space above it matter. Base material is aluminum.
3) What metal halide or HPS wattage does this 65W LED replace?
The S13167 is rated at a 400W incandescent equivalent, putting out 8450 lumens on the high setting while drawing 65W. On the low setting it drops to 32W and 4420 lumens.
4) How do you set the color temperature and wattage on the Satco A-Plus 37 selectable lamp?
Two selectable settings are built into the lamp itself. Color temperature picks between 3000K, 4000K and 5000K (ColorQuick), and wattage switches between 65W and 32W (PowerQuick). That means one part number covers warm-white lobbies and 5000K parking or warehouse areas, so a property manager can stock a single lamp for several applications.
5) Can this LED lamp go in an enclosed fixture or an outdoor wall pack?
Enclosed rated, so it can be installed in a closed fixture without voiding its rating. It is rated for damp locations and listed for both indoor and outdoor use, which covers covered soffits, canopies and enclosed wall packs. Damp rating does not mean wet, so avoid fixtures exposed to direct water.
6) Can the S13167 be mounted base-up in a high bay?
Burning position is universal, so base-up, base-down or horizontal all work. That matters on HID retrofits where the original lamp was position-oriented.
7) Is this Satco lamp DLC listed for utility rebates?
Yes, the S13167 is DLC approved, which is what most utility prescriptive rebate programs require for LED retrofit lamps. It is also FCC compliant.
8) How wide is the light distribution, and is it a good fit for an open reflector fixture?
Beam spread is 280 degrees with a frosted polycarbonate lens, so it throws light nearly all the way around the lamp rather than in a narrow cone. That suits open reflectors, post tops and acorn fixtures where you want the reflector to do the aiming. It is not a directional replacement for a spot or flood lamp.
9) What current draw should I figure for circuit loading on a group of these?
Current runs 0.650 to 0.235A on the high setting and 0.320 to 0.116A on the low, depending where in the 100V to 277V range the circuit sits. Higher voltage means lower amps, so a 277V install loads the branch circuit far less than a 120V one, useful when you are dropping a dozen of these onto one breaker.
10) How long will these last before the crew has to go back up the lift?
Rated average life is 50,000 hours. On a dusk-to-dawn schedule of roughly 4,000 hours a year, that is on the order of a decade of service, which is the main argument for retrofitting hard-to-reach HID fixtures.
11) Is the color quality good enough for retail or hospitality spaces?
CRI is 80, which is the normal benchmark for commercial and general area lighting. With 3000K selectable it works for hospitality corridors and canopies; for critical retail color rendering you would want a higher-CRI lamp.
