Satco Lighting S22219 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can an 11.5 watt LED PAR38 replace the halogen PAR38 lamps we are pulling out?
Yes, electrically it is a direct swap: same PAR38 shape, same medium screw base, same 120 volt line voltage, at 11.5 watts instead of the 60 to 90 watts a halogen PAR38 typically draws. The things to verify before a building-wide changeover are the fixture's enclosed or wet-location requirements and, if the cans are on dimmers, that the existing dimmer is LED-compatible.
2) Is a 40 degree beam angle right for general downlighting or is it a spot?
Forty degrees is a flood beam, not a spot. The S22219 spreads light wide enough to wash a wall or light a seating area, lobby, or corridor from a recessed can without the hot center you get from a 15 or 25 degree narrow spot. If you need to punch light onto artwork or merchandise from a tall ceiling, a narrower PAR38 beam is the better choice.
3) What color does 3000K look like, and will it match the bulbs already in my building?
3000K is warm white, slightly warmer and yellower than neutral 3500K/4000K and noticeably warmer than daylight 5000K. It is the common match for a halogen-era interior. If the other fixtures in the space are 2700K soft white or 4000K cool white, the S22219 will read visibly different, so standardize the whole run on one color temperature.
4) Why pay for 90 CRI on a PAR38 LED instead of a standard 80 CRI lamp?
90 CRI means the lamp renders color much closer to a reference source than a typical 80 CRI LED. That matters where color judgment is part of the job: retail merchandise, hotel lobbies and guest rooms, galleries, food display, paint and finish selection, and healthcare spaces. For a back-of-house corridor or a parking structure the extra CRI buys you little. The S22219 is the 90 CRI, 3000K version.
5) How many bulbs come in the Satco S22219 PAR38 order?
S22219 ships as a 2-pack of clear PAR38 lamps. Count your sockets and divide by two when you build the order, so a 12-can lobby needs six packs.
