Satco Lighting S22243 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this PAR30 LED in a fully enclosed fixture or a sealed outdoor can?
Yes. The S22243 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can run in a sealed or gasketed fixture where heat builds up and most LED lamps are not permitted. It is also wet location rated and listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers soffit cans, canopies, and exterior floods exposed to rain. Burning position is universal, so base up, base down, or horizontal all work.
2) Will 5000K match the other bulbs already in my building?
Only if your existing lamps are also 5000K. The S22243 is fixed 5000K daylight, and it is not a CCT selectable lamp, so there is no field switch to drop it to 3000K or 4000K. Mixing it into a run of warm white cans will be obvious from the floor. For fleet standardization, pick one temperature across the facility and order it throughout.
3) Is the long neck PAR30 the right choice, or do I need a short neck?
The S22243 is the PAR30LN (long neck) version. Long neck lamps are meant for recessed cans and track heads where the socket sits deeper, so the lens finishes flush with the trim instead of recessed up inside it. If your existing lamp is a short neck PAR30, the long neck will sit proud of the trim or may not seat in the housing at all. Match the neck length to what you removed.
4) Will this 20.5W PAR30 LED dim without flicker on my existing wall dimmers?
The lamp is dimmable at 120V, 60Hz. Current draw is only 0.171 amps, so an older incandescent-style dimmer with a high minimum load may not hold it steady if just one or two lamps are on the circuit. For retrofit work on legacy dimmers, group enough lamps on the circuit to clear the dimmer's minimum load, or swap to an LED-rated dimmer.
5) Is the color rendering good enough for retail or healthcare spaces?
CRI is 90, which is the threshold most retail, healthcare, and hospitality specs call out for accurate color on merchandise, skin tone, and finishes. Paired with the 5000K daylight temperature, it reads crisp and neutral rather than warm.
6) Can this lamp be used on a three-way socket or fixture?
No. The S22243 is not a three-way lamp. In a three-way socket it will operate at a single output level only, so if the fixture needs stepped switching you need a lamp built for three-way operation.
7) Does this Satco PAR30 qualify for DLC utility rebates?
No. The S22243 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify for utility incentive programs that require a DesignLights Consortium listing. It is FCC compliant and marked lawful for sale in California.
8) What is the lamp made of, and what does the lens look like once it is installed?
Body is aluminum and plastic with a gray housing, and the lens is polystyrene plastic with a silver finish. Lensed construction means a smooth optical face rather than exposed diodes, which keeps glare down when the lamp sits near the plane of the trim. Lamp weight is 0.6 lb, well within the range of standard track heads and can sockets.
