No. The S23161 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, which means it runs on line voltage directly. The existing metal halide or high pressure sodium ballast has to be removed or bypassed and the socket rewired to line voltage before the lamp goes in. Leaving the ballast in circuit will damage the lamp.

It is a high voltage lamp, rated 277V to 347V at 50/60Hz, drawing 0.097 to 0.078A. It will not operate on a 120V or 208/240V circuit. For 120V retrofits you need the standard-voltage version of the corncob lamp, not this one.
