Satco Lighting S29811 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Satco S29811 A19 LED be used in an enclosed ceiling fixture or a glass dome?
Yes. The S29811 is an enclosed rated lamp, so it can run inside a closed glass dome, flush mount or jelly jar without voiding the lamp rating. It is also damp location rated, which covers a covered porch ceiling or a bathroom fixture, but not direct wet exposure.
2) Can I ship Satco S29811 to a job in California?
No. The S29811 is flagged non-compliant for California Title 20. Satco lists S8651 as the Title 20 alternate substitute for that market, so specify that one for California installations.
3) Is the Satco S29811 dimmable, and will it work on my existing wall dimmer?
The lamp is dimmable on 120 volt, 60 Hz line voltage. Older incandescent dimmers can still buzz or flicker with LED loads, so an LED-rated dimmer is the safer pairing. Current draw is only 0.092 amps per lamp, so a dimmer's minimum load matters more than its maximum when you are running just a few.
4) Will a 3000K A19 LED match the bulbs already in my building?
3000K is warm white, a step cooler and whiter than the 2700K that matches classic incandescent, and well short of 4000K neutral. If your other fixtures are 2700K the difference will be visible in the same room, so keep 3000K to full rooms or corridors rather than mixing. CRI is 80, which is standard for general multi-family and MRO lighting.
5) Can this bulb be installed base up or in a horizontal socket?
Burning position is universal, so the S29811 can go base up, base down, or horizontal. That covers wall sconces, fan light kits and table lamps without derating. The 220 degree beam spread with a frosted lens gives near omnidirectional output, so it reads evenly in an open shade.
6) Is this a 3-way bulb or color selectable?
Neither. The S29811 is a single-output lamp: fixed 3000K with no CCT selection switch, and it is not a 3-way bulb. In a 3-way socket it will run at one level only, so for a 3-way table lamp you need a lamp specifically built for 3-way operation.
7) Can I use this LED bulb in an outdoor post light or wall lantern?
Only in a protected location. The lamp is rated for indoor use and damp locations, so a fully enclosed covered-entry lantern is acceptable, but an open fixture exposed to rain or spray needs a wet location rated lamp instead.
8) How long will these A19 LEDs last in apartment turnovers and common areas?
Average rated life is 25,000 hours. In a common-area fixture burning roughly 12 hours a day that is on the order of five to six years before relamping, which is why these get spec'd for stairwells and corridors where ladder time costs more than the lamp.
9) Does the Satco S29811 qualify for a DLC utility rebate?
No. It is not DLC listed, so it will not qualify under rebate programs that require DLC qualification. It is FCC compliant for electromagnetic interference.
