Satco Lighting S29925 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Satco S29925 8 foot LED tube need the existing fluorescent ballast, or does it bypass it?
It's a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the fluorescent ballast has to be removed or disconnected and line voltage wired straight to the sockets. Leaving the old ballast in circuit is not an option with this lamp.
2) Is the S29925 single ended or double ended wiring?
Double ended wiring. Line goes to one end of the lamp and neutral to the other, so both sockets stay live-wired. That matters if your fixture is set up for single ended, where both conductors land at one end only, it has to be rewired to suit.
3) What do I need to do to the fixture before installing a Type B double ended tube like the S29925?
Three steps: kill the power, remove or disconnect the fluorescent ballast, then wire line voltage to one lampholder and neutral to the other so the lamp is fed double ended. Non-shunted sockets are required for double ended wiring. Once converted, the fixture no longer accepts a fluorescent lamp, so label it.
4) What color temperature is the Satco S29925, and will it match other lamps in the building?
5000K, a cool daylight-white. It matches other 5000K lamps but will read noticeably bluer next to 4000K or 3500K tubes, so relamp a whole space or a whole fixture run rather than mixing.
5) How long is the rated life on this 8 foot LED tube?
50,000 average rated hours. For a facility running 12 hours a day that is roughly 11 years of service, which is the main reason MRO buyers move 8 foot strip fixtures off fluorescent.
