Satco Lighting S39916 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I drop the Satco S39916 4ft T8 LED into my existing fluorescent fixture without rewiring?
No. The S39916 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing fluorescent ballast has to come out and line voltage has to be wired direct to the sockets. It accepts either single-ended or double-ended wiring, which gives the electrician flexibility on how the tombstones are fed. If you want a lamp that runs on the ballast already in the fixture, you need a Type A plug-and-play tube instead.
2) Will 5000K match the tubes already installed on my other floors?
Only if those are 5000K daylight lamps. The S39916 is fixed at 5000K, a cool daylight white, and it is not a CCT selectable lamp, so there is no field switch to drop it to 3500K or 4000K. Mixing it in a space with 4000K tubes will read as an obvious color difference. Color rendering is 82 CRI.
3) What voltage can the Satco S39916 T8 LED tube be wired to?
It runs on any line voltage from 120V through 277V at 50/60Hz, so the same lamp works on residential 120V circuits and on 277V commercial lighting branch circuits. Current draw is 0.117A down to 0.051A depending on where in that range you land.
4) Is 1800 lumens at 14 watts enough to replace the 32W fluorescent tubes in my building?
For general ambient lighting in corridors, storage, parking structures and back-of-house, yes. The lamp puts out 1800 lumens at 14 watts, which Satco rates as a 75W incandescent equivalent, with a 210 degree beam spread so the light washes out of the fixture rather than throwing a narrow pattern. If you are lighting a space that currently runs high-output tubes for task work, count your fixtures and lamps per fixture against the lumen total before committing a whole floor.
5) Can this Satco T8 LED go in a damp location like a covered parking deck or a cooler?
It carries a damp location rating and is listed for indoor or outdoor use, so covered exterior areas, parking decks and similar damp spots are within rating. Damp is not wet: it should not be used where it will be exposed to direct water or driving rain unless the fixture itself provides that protection.
6) Can this T8 tube be mounted vertically or in an angled fixture?
Yes. Burning position is universal, so it can run horizontally in a troffer or strip, vertically in a cove or wall-mount, or at any angle without affecting rated life. Rated average life is 50,000 hours.
7) Is the Satco S39916 a glass tube or plastic?
Glass. Both the lens and base material are glass with a gloss white finish and a white housing. Worth knowing for handling and for spaces where a shatter-resistant coated or plastic-bodied tube is required, such as food prep or healthcare areas under a glass-exclusion policy.
8) Can I dim these or put them on a three-way setup?
No. The S39916 is not a three-way lamp. It is a ballast bypass tube wired to line voltage, so plan on switched on/off control rather than dimming for this lamp.
9) Will this LED tube cause interference with wireless or electronic equipment?
The lamp is FCC compliant, so its driver meets the federal limits on conducted and radiated emissions. That is the spec to point to if you are installing near AV, radio, or medical monitoring equipment and someone asks.
