Satco Lighting S49673 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I have to remove the existing ballast to install the Satco S49673 45W LED corncob lamp?
Yes. The S49673 is a Type B ballast bypass lamp, so the existing HID ballast has to be removed or disconnected and line voltage wired directly to the socket. It runs on 100V to 277V at 50/60Hz, so it works on either 120V or 277V circuits once the socket is wired direct. If you leave the old magnetic or electronic ballast in the circuit, the lamp will not operate correctly.
2) Can I use this 45W LED HID replacement in a fully enclosed fixture?
Yes, it is an enclosed rated lamp, so acorn, shoebox, and gasketed wallpack housings are fine. It is also rated for damp locations and listed for indoor or outdoor use, which covers covered walkways, canopies, and parking structures. Wet location applications with direct water contact are outside that damp rating.
3) Will this LED corncob work on a dimmer or an occupancy sensor dimming circuit?
No. The 45W Hi-Pro lamp is non-dimmable and is not a three-way lamp, so it must be fed switched line voltage only. On a dimming circuit you will get flicker, no start, or early failure. For a dimming spec you need a different lamp or a fixture-level LED retrofit kit.
4) Is the Satco S49673 DLC listed for a utility rebate?
No, it is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify under rebate programs that require a DLC-listed product. It is Title 24 compliant and FCC compliant, which covers California energy code requirements and radio interference. If a rebate is driving the project, choose a DLC-listed lamp instead.
5) What HID wattage does a 45W Satco Hi-Pro LED corncob actually replace?
At 6165 lumens with a 300 degree beam spread, the 45W Hi-Pro is aimed at lower-wattage HID retrofits, and Satco lists it against a 125W incandescent equivalent. Compare lumens to the output of the lamp you are pulling out rather than wattage alone, since an aged metal halide lamp is usually putting out far less than its rating. The 300 degree spread throws light nearly all the way around, which suits downlight shoebox and wallpack housings.
6) Can the Satco S49673 be mounted base up or horizontally?
Burning position is universal, so base up, base down, or horizontal all work. That matters on retrofits where the old HID lamp was position-rated and you could not flip it.
7) Will 4000K match the other LED lamps already in my building?
The S49673 is fixed at 4000K neutral white with 80 CRI, and it is not CCT selectable. If the rest of your site is 5000K, this lamp will read visibly warmer side by side, so standardize a parking lot or garage on one color temperature. Order the 4000K version only where the surrounding lamps are also 4000K.
8) How much current does this lamp draw and how many can I put on a circuit?
Draw is 0.450A at the low end of the voltage range down to 0.162A at the high end, on a 45W load. Use the 0.450A figure for 120V branch circuit loading math and 0.162A for 277V. Rated life is 35,000 hours.
9) Is this corncob lamp heavy enough to be a problem in an older socket?
It weighs 1.7 lb, which is more than the HID lamp it replaces in some housings, and the extended mogul base puts that weight further from the socket. In older fixtures with a worn or spring-mounted porcelain socket, support the lamp or replace the socket. Body is aluminum heat sink with a clear polycarbonate lens, in a white housing.
