Satco Lighting S8026 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Satco S8026 orange S14 bulb be used outdoors on a patio or string light run?
Yes. The S8026 is rated for wet locations and listed for both indoor and outdoor use, so it can go in an exposed string light run or an open patio fixture. It runs on standard 120V, 60Hz line power at 0.008 amps per lamp, which is why long commercial string runs can carry a lot of them on a single circuit.
2) Will the Satco S8026 orange bulb work on a dimmer?
No. The S8026 is non-dimmable. Put it on a dimmer or a controller that chops the waveform and you will get flicker, buzz, or early failure. It needs a straight switched 120V circuit. If the run is already on a dimmer, either bypass the dimmer or pick a dimmable filament lamp instead.
3) How bright is the 1W orange S14 LED compared to the incandescent sign bulb it replaces?
It puts out 30 lumens and is rated as an 11W incandescent equivalent, so it is decorative output, not task or area light. Think marquee, cafe string, sign cabinet, or Halloween and fall accent lighting. The color is not a filter over white light either, the glass itself is transparent orange.
4) Can I mount the Satco S8026 base-up or sideways in a fixture?
Any orientation. Burning position is universal, so base-up, base-down, or horizontal all work. That matters on marquee signs and canopy strings where sockets point in every direction. The 320 degree beam spread means it throws light nearly all the way around the lamp rather than in one direction.
5) How many bulbs come in a pack of Satco S8026, and how often will I be relamping?
They ship four to a pack. Each lamp is rated for 15,000 average hours. On a string that burns dusk to dawn, roughly 12 hours a day, that is several years before relamping, which is the main reason property managers swap decorative incandescent S14s over to filament LED.
6) Can I use the S8026 on a commercial rebate project that requires DLC listed lamps?
No. The S8026 is not DLC approved, so it will not qualify for utility programs that require a DLC listed product. It is a decorative orange S14 accent lamp rather than a general illumination lamp, so if the project needs rebate-eligible product, specify a DLC listed lamp for those fixtures and keep this one for decorative runs.
7) Is the Satco S8026 real glass or plastic, and will it hold up outside?
Glass. The lens is transparent orange glass and the base is aluminum with glass. It is a filament-style LED, so it looks like a vintage sign lamp rather than a frosted plastic LED. Being glass, handle it like any sign bulb during install; the wet location rating covers it once it is in the socket.
8) Will the S8026 work in a three-way socket or change color temperature?
Neither. It is a single-output lamp: not three-way, and not CCT selectable. Screwed into a three-way socket it will simply light at its one level on whichever contact it makes. The color is fixed orange from the glass itself. The lamp is FCC compliant, which is worth knowing if you are running dozens of them near sound or AV equipment.
