Schlage 47267031 626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) My Schlage ALX lever lock's push button is broken. Do I have to replace the whole lockset?
No. The Schlage 47267031 is the interior push/turn button on its own, sold as a replacement part for ALX Series locks built to the 53 function. If the chassis, latch and levers are still sound and it is only the button that has failed, this is the piece you order. It is the button only, so it does not come with a lever, rose or chassis.
2) What does the push/turn button on a Schlage ALX Function 53 lock actually do?
It is what locks the outside lever from inside the room. In Schlage's ALX cylindrical lever line the 53 function is the entrance/office lock (ALX53PD): push the inside button, or push and turn it to hold it, and the outside lever is locked until it is released or the key is used. The inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress, which is why a failed button locks a room out rather than trapping anyone in it. The 47267031 is that button.
3) Will the Schlage 47267031 button fit an ND or AL series Schlage lock?
No. The 47267031 is specified for the ALX Series in the 53 function only. Schlage's ND and AL cylindrical locks use different chassis and their own inside trim parts, so this button will not carry over. Before ordering, confirm the lock you are repairing is an ALX and that it is the 53 function, not a storeroom, classroom or passage function, because those functions have no inside button at all.
4) What finishes does the Schlage 47267031 ALX push/turn button come in, and how do I match the lock it is going into?
Eight finishes, called out by BHMA code so they match the code stamped on the rest of the lock: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 622 Matte Black, 625 Bright Chrome and 626 Satin Chrome. Order the button in the same code as the existing lever and rose. On commercial and multi-family work that is usually 626 Satin Chrome or 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze; 622 Matte Black turns up on newer hospitality and residential-style packages.
