Schlage Commercial 80-033 7-Pin Small Format Interchangeable Construction (SFIC) Core

The Schlage 80-033 is a small format interchangeable core (SFIC), so it fits the standard SFIC figure-8 housing that Best-style cores use, and it is cut for Best keyways. Order it in the Best keyway your building is already keyed to: A, B, C, D, G, H, J, K, L, or M. Match the keyway and the core swaps in with a control key, no lock disassembly.

Seven pins. That matters if you are mixing it into an existing system: a 7-pin core works in a 7-pin keying system and takes 7-pin keys, while 6-pin cores and 6-pin keys are a different depth stack. If your master key system was built 6-pin, adding a 7-pin core means the keys for it are cut on 7-pin blanks in the same Best keyway family.

Pick the keyway your existing key system already uses, since the keyway is what decides whether your current keys enter the plug. The 80-033 core is offered in Best A, B, C, D, G, H, J, K, L, and M keyways. Standardizing a whole facility on one letter, then master keying within it, is the usual approach; if you are extending an existing system, pull a key and read the keyway stamp off it before you order.

An interchangeable core is not a rim cylinder. The 80-033 SFIC core needs a lock or a housing prepped to accept a small format core; drop it in a rim exit device and there is nothing for it to seat in unless that device has an SFIC rim housing. If the lock takes a conventional mortise cylinder, you need a mortise cylinder such as the 10-40, not a core.

Both pull out with a control key, but they are not the same part and do not share housings. SFIC uses the small figure-8 core that a huge range of commercial locks accept, which is why it is the common choice for standardizing a mixed hardware fleet. Commercial. That is the whole point of the format. With a control key you pull the core out of the lock and put a differently keyed core in, so a turnover or a lost key becomes a one minute job at the door instead of a lock teardown. The Sargent 10-ALC is a Signature Series 6-pin deadbolt cylinder assembly with protected key control, sold as the cylinder assembly for a deadbolt. The Schlage 80-033 7-pin SFIC core is the alternative where the deadbolt is SFIC-prepped and the facility is standardized on Best keyways -- A, B, C, D, G, H, J, K, L or M. The deciding factor is the existing key system: a facility already carrying small format cores keys the deadbolt with a core, one on conventional cylinders keys it with a cylinder assembly.

The 80-033 is a cylinder core sold as a replacement part, ordered by keyway. What you get is the core itself for a given Best keyway family; the actual cuts are a keying decision your locksmith or key system administrator makes to fit your existing master key schedule.
