1) What is the Schlage N123-008 keycam assembly and which ND Series locks does it go in?
The N123-008 is the inside keycam assembly for Schlage ND Series cylindrical locks. It's the internal cam part that ties the inside key cylinder to the lock's retracting mechanism, not a complete lockset or a trim piece. Schlage lists it for the ND82, ND12, ND80, ND25x80 and ND70x80 functions, all of which are the ND functions that take a key on the inside of the door.
2) I have a Schlage ND53 or ND80 with a key on the outside only. Will the N123-008 keycam work?
No. The N123-008 is the inside keycam, and Schlage calls it out for the ND82, ND12, ND80, ND25x80 and ND70x80. Those are double-cylinder or inside-keyed functions. A lock with a key on the outside only doesn't use this part, and fitting an inside cam to it will not give you a working inside key. Match the part to the exact ND function stamped on your lock before you order.
3) Is the Schlage N123-008 a repair part or a whole lock?
Repair part. The N123-008 is a single keycam assembly for the inside of an ND Series lock, sold on its own so a locksmith or maintenance tech can rebuild a lock in place rather than pull and replace the whole chassis. It does not come with a cylinder, a key, trim, or a lever.
4) Will a Schlage ND Series keycam fit an L Series mortise or a B Series deadbolt?
It won't. The N123-008 is built for the ND Series cylindrical chassis. Schlage's mortise locks and deadbolts use entirely different internal mechanisms and their own cam parts, so an ND keycam has nothing to engage in them. If the lock in your door isn't an ND, this is the wrong part.
5) I manage a building with a mix of Schlage ND classroom and storeroom locks. Can I stock one keycam for all of them?
Only for the inside-keyed ones. The N123-008 covers the ND82, ND12, ND80, ND25x80 and ND70x80 inside. If your openings are a mix of those plus outside-key-only functions, one keycam won't cover the fleet. Pull the function code off the faceplate or the lock body on a sample of doors first, then stock by function rather than by series.
