Schlage L283-452 RX Module, L909x Series

It is called out for the L909x series, Schlage's electrified L Series mortise locks. Match the module to an L909x lock and you are ordering the part it was specified for. If the lock on the door is a different Schlage family, or an L Series case that was never prepped for the electrified series, this is not the part that gets it monitoring egress. Check the model stamped on the lock case or the original hardware schedule before ordering, because the lock family is what decides this, not the finish or the function code on the trim.

Only that the lever was used. The L283-452 reports that the inside lever has been operated, which is the request-to-exit signal an access control panel needs to allow egress without an alarm. It says nothing about whether the leaf is closed or the latch is thrown. If the job requires door position monitoring, that is a separate device, a door position switch or magnetic contact in the frame, and it has to be ordered on its own. Integrators trip over this regularly and end up short a component on the commissioning day.

No choices to make. The L283-452 is ordered as a single model with no finish or handing option to select. That is worth knowing because a lot of Schlage L Series parts are finish specific and have to be matched to the rest of the trim on the door; this one you call out by model number alone and it is the same part regardless of what the lever and rose are finished in.

Just the component. The L283-452 is a replacement part, the RX module by itself, ordered against an L909x series lock that is already on the door or already on the order. It is not a lockset and it does not come with a chassis or trim. For a repair, this is the piece that goes in when the request-to-exit signal has stopped reaching the panel; for a new opening, it is ordered alongside the lock, not instead of it.

Genuine Schlage, sold as a certified Schlage part. For a property manager or facility group keeping a building standardized on L Series hardware, that matters more than it sounds: an electrified mortise lock that has had a non-OEM module dropped into it is a lock nobody wants to troubleshoot two years later, and the specification on the door stops matching what is actually installed.
