1) What does the Schlage ND12EU exit lock actually do when the power goes out?
On the ND12EU the outside lever stays locked while power is applied, and it unlocks when the current drops or a switch cuts it. That is fail-secure wiring in Schlage's naming but fail-safe behavior at the opening: lose power and the outside lever becomes free. The inside lever is always unlocked for immediate egress, powered or not. If you need the outside lever to stay locked through a power loss, this is the wrong function for that opening.
