Schlage ND SERIES OVERVIEW

The Schlage ND Series offers a full breadth of commercial lock options with a suited combination of mechanical, electrified and electronic options. This overview covers common characteristics for the mechanical and electrified lock information.

Beyond grade 1 performance is the hallmark of the mechanical and electrified locks. ND Series locks are tested to withstand 3,100 in-lb. of abusive lever torque - more than 2 1/2 times the Grade 1 standard requirement. Offset lever pull testing up to 1,600 lbs. assures you of the lock's superb resistance against pry bar attacks. More than strong, ND Series is built to last and shows nearly zero droop or wobble after 16 million cycles.

All ND Series locks including electronic and ligature-resistant trim use the common cylindrical ANSI 161 door preparation making them easily interchangeable. They are ideal for all new construction and retrofit applications.

ND Series Mechanical Lock

The ND mechanical lock, along with being Schlage’s best selling mechanical lock, is the foundation for both the wired electrified and NDE wireless electronic lock. Not only did Schlage invent the cylindrical lock, but they continue to make it better with capabilities such as:

  • Unparalleled strength - the lock prevents access even when subjected to torque loads up to 3,100 in-lbs (2.6x BHMA1), withstands pry bar attacks of 1,600 lbs (8x BHMA requirements1), and withstands 100 hammer blows (20x BHMA requirements1, 2)
  • Exceptional durability - cycle tested to over 16M cycles (16x BHMA requirements1) with near zero droop or wobble - without the use of set screws or O-rings
  • Improved feel - improved strength and durability are more than numbers, you can actually feel it in the lock
  • Improved installation - installation is even easier than before (and withoutany set screws or O-rings)

FEATURES & BENEFITS

Security

  • Significantly exceeds ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 requirements
  • No access with minimum 3,100 in-lb. abusive lever torque, the equivalent of over 690 lbs. applied to the end of a 4-1/2" lever, 2.6 times over the BHMA requirement*
  • No access with minimum 1,600 lbs. offset lever pull for protection against pry bar attacks, 8 times over the BHMA requirement*
  • 5 points of engagement provide nearly zero droop and wobble after 16 million cycles, 16 times over the BHMA requirement*, without the use of set screws or o-rings
  • High security locking when used with Primus XP UL 437 listed cylinders

Schlage ND80PDEL RHO 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Schlage ND80EL storeroom lockset used for?
The ND80EL is an electrically unlocked storeroom lockset for high-security applications. The lever is always locked from outside, requiring key access or electrical unlock signal. Inside lever always allows free exit. Common in server rooms, storage areas, and restricted access zones.
2) Is this Grade 1 lockset compatible with standard commercial doors?
Yes, the ND80EL fits standard 2-1/8" bore preparation on doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick. Grade 1 rating ensures heavy-duty commercial performance. Verify door weight capacity and consult manufacturer template for exact preparation requirements.
3) How do I determine the correct handing for installation?
Stand on the side where the door opens toward you. If hinges are on your right, it's right-hand. If hinges are on your left, it's left-hand. The ND80EL is field-reversible, allowing adjustment during installation for either handing.
4) What finishes are available for the ND80EL series?
Schlage ND series typically offers satin chrome, bright chrome, satin brass, and oil-rubbed bronze finishes. Specific availability varies by model. Check product specifications or contact us to confirm finish options for your exact application.
5) What power requirements does the electrical unlock feature need?
Most Schlage electrical locksets operate on 12V or 24V DC power. The ND80EL requires connection to access control system or power supply. Consult installation instructions for exact voltage, current draw, and wiring specifications before connecting.
6) Can this lockset be used with existing access control systems?
Yes, the ND80EL integrates with most commercial access control systems through dry contact or powered unlock signals. Verify signal compatibility and voltage requirements with your access control manufacturer before installation.
7) What keying options are available for the cylindrical lock?
The ND80EL accepts standard Schlage C keyway cylinders. Available in keyed different, keyed alike, or master keyed configurations. Construction keying and grand master key systems also possible through authorized Schlage dealers.
8) Are replacement parts and accessories readily available?
Yes, Schlage ND series uses standard commercial lockset components. Common replacement parts include cylinders, lever handles, and electrical components. Most parts available through commercial hardware distributors and Schlage authorized dealers.
9) What basic tools are needed for installation?
Standard installation requires screwdrivers, drill with hole saw attachments, chisel, and measuring tools. Electrical connection requires wire strippers and electrical testing equipment. Use manufacturer template for precise hole placement and preparation.
10) How do I maintain the electrical unlock mechanism?
Test electrical unlock function monthly. Check wire connections for tightness and corrosion. Lubricate mechanical components with graphite-based lubricant. Avoid oil-based lubricants that attract dirt. Replace batteries in connected access devices as needed.
11) What other Schlage ND series models are similar to the ND80EL?
The ND70 series offers similar mechanical storeroom function without electrical features. ND96EL provides classroom function with electrical override. All Schlage ND series locksets share similar installation and Grade 1 performance ratings.
12) What door and frame conditions affect performance?
Ensure door alignment prevents binding. Check strike plate alignment for proper latch engagement. Verify adequate clearance for electrical wiring routing. Door warping or frame settlement can affect lock operation and electrical connection reliability.
