The ND80EU is the electrified chassis only, from the Schlage ND800 Series. It is supplied less cylinder and less all possible components, so no keyed cylinder, no levers, no roses or escutcheons, and no trim come with it. Plan on sourcing the lever design, rose, and cylinder separately to build a complete lockset, or use it to swap the working guts into an existing ND lock that already has usable trim.

Fail safe. Power applied keeps the outside lever locked; cut the power and the outside lever unlocks, giving free access through the opening. That is the behavior you want on stair doors and egress paths tied to a fire alarm release. If you need the opposite, where loss of power leaves the door locked, a fail secure electrified chassis is the version to order instead.

Two build options are offered: standard, and with request to exit. The RX version adds an internal switch that signals your access control panel whenever the inside lever is turned, so a legitimate exit does not register as a forced door on the monitoring side. If the opening is monitored or alarmed, order the request-to-exit build; if the chassis is simply being switched on and off by a card reader with no door monitoring, the standard build covers it.

Yes, it is a Grade 1 storeroom chassis. Grade 1 is the heaviest duty tier under ANSI/BHMA A156.2 for cylindrical locks, which is why the ND Series is the usual pick for schools, hospitals, and high-traffic multi-family corridors rather than light commercial or residential openings.

Storeroom function means the outside lever is always fixed and the door is entered by key or, here, by an electrical release; the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. Combined with fail safe wiring, the practical result is a door that stays locked to the outside under power, opens to the outside when power is removed or the alarm releases it, and never locks anyone in.

That is its main use. It is the chassis alone from the ND800 Series, supplied without trim or cylinder, so on an opening already carrying an ND lock you can retain the levers, roses, and existing cylinder and swap in the electrified chassis to bring the door onto access control. You will still need to get power to the door, typically through an electric hinge or power transfer, which is not part of the chassis.

No keying needs to be specified with the chassis itself, because it ships less cylinder. Keyway, keying, and cylinder length are decided when you order the cylinder, which lets you match whatever master key system is already running in the building rather than being locked to a factory keyway.
