Schlage B502-292 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What cam do I need to put a Schlage mortise cylinder into an Adams Rite lock?
Schlage B502-292 is the cam for that combination. It mounts to a Schlage Classic conventional mortise cylinder and is made for use with Adams Rite hardware, so the cylinder you key into your Schlage system will drive the Adams Rite lock. Order the cylinder and this cam together if you are converting the opening over.
2) Does the Schlage B502-292 cam fit a modular mortise cylinder?
No. B502-292 is the non-modular cam, cut for Schlage Classic conventional mortise cylinders. If the cylinder in your hand is one of Schlage's modular mortise cylinders, this is the wrong part and it will not go on.
3) Is the B502-292 just the cam, or does a cylinder come with it?
Cam only. The B502-292 is the replacement cam that fastens to the back of a Schlage Classic conventional mortise cylinder. You supply the cylinder, the keyway, and the keying.
4) Our building is keyed Schlage but the storefront doors have Adams Rite locks. Can we get them on the same key?
Yes, and this cam is the piece that makes it work. Adams Rite hardware is what you normally find on narrow stile aluminum storefront doors, and it does not take a Schlage cylinder as it ships. Fit a Schlage Classic conventional mortise cylinder keyed into your existing system, swap the cam for the B502-292, and the storefront runs on the same key as the rest of the building.
5) Will this Schlage cam work on a rim cylinder or a key-in-knob cylinder?
No. B502-292 is a mortise cylinder cam, so it only fits the threaded mortise cylinder body. A rim cylinder is driven by a tailpiece rather than a cam, and a key-in-knob cylinder uses neither, so neither one takes this part.
6) How is Schlage B502-292 different from Schlage's other mortise cylinder cams?
Two things set B502-292 apart: it is the non-modular version, meaning it belongs on Schlage Classic conventional mortise cylinders rather than the modular line, and it is the Adams Rite application cam rather than a standard mortise lock cam. Get either of those wrong and the cylinder will either not accept the cam or will not turn the lock.
