The PM Series offers 26 functions, including three electrified, and four mortise deadbolt functions, all made to meet Schlage’s rigorous quality standards. With popular levers and finish options, Schlage's full key system security line up, and its durable design, you can meet needs for both security and style. Schlage PM080P SELA 626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Schlage PM080 mortise lock fit a 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. 1-3/4 inches (44 mm) is the standard door thickness for the PM Series mortise lock, with 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) the minimum. The case will also go into doors up to 2-1/2 inches thick, but you have to specify the door thickness and the lock position in the door when it is over 1-3/4 inches. The mortise pocket has to suit a case measuring 4-7/16 x 6-1/16 x 1 inch (113 x 154 x 25 mm).
2) Do I have to order a Schlage PM080 handed, or can it be reversed on site?
Handing is field reversible on the PM080, so one lock covers left and right hand openings and you don't have to call the hand on the order. That matters if you are stocking a few spares for a building with doors swinging both ways.
3) What does storeroom function actually do on a PM080 mortise lock?
Storeroom means the outside lever is always locked and only the key retracts the latch, while the inside lever is always free for egress. There is no way to leave it unlocked by pushbutton or turn, which is why it goes on mechanical rooms, electrical closets, storage and tenant service rooms where the door has to relock every time it shuts.
4) What do I need to specify on the cylinder when ordering a PM080?
Five cylinder choices are offered: P for a conventional 6-pin cylinder keyed 5, T for an FSIC construction core, or three less-cylinder prep options if you are supplying your own core, L for less conventional 6-pin, B for less SFIC and J for less FSIC. If you already key the building on small format or full size interchangeable cores, order the matching less-cylinder option and drop your own core in.
5) Can I mortise the PM080 into a door that currently has a Schlage L Series lock?
Not as a straight drop-in. Schlage states that the PM and L Series case and cover holes differ, so the through-bolt and trim hole pattern is not the same even though both are mortise locks. Plan on re-prepping the door face, and check the PM Series template before you cut.
6) I need a classroom function mortise lock, not storeroom - what should I order instead?
The PM080 is storeroom function, so for a classroom opening look at the Corbin Russwin ML2003 Grade 1 mortise classroom lockset from the ML2000 Series for 1-3/4 inch doors, or the Cal-Royal NM8070 Grade 1 classroom mortise lockset with auxiliary deadlatch, also listed at 1-3/4 inch.
7) Will a Baldwin 6310 work as a substitute for a PM080 storeroom mortise lock?
They are not interchangeable in the same prep. The PM080 uses a 2-3/4 inch backset, while the Baldwin 6310 entry/storeroom mortise lock body is a 2-1/2 inch backset unit listed for 1-3/8 inch and over doors. Different backset means a different mortise pocket and face location, so confirm the door prep before treating one as a swap for the other.
8) We want an access-controlled storeroom door that still fails secure like the PM080 - what electrified mortise option matches?
The Command Access ML190 is a heavy-duty motorized mortise lock with storeroom function and field selectable EL/EU operation on 24VDC, so it holds the same storeroom function as the PM080 while adding electric control. The BEST 45HW is a wired electromechanical heavy duty mortise lock with 12V/24V operation. The PM080 itself is a mechanical lock.
9) What finishes does the Schlage PM080 Selena mortise lock come in for matching the rest of my building?
Six finishes: 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 matte black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. Because the PM Series shares lever and rose styles with the Schlage PT Series tubular locks, you can carry the same Selena look and finish from mortise openings onto tubular openings in the same building.
10) Is the Schlage PM080 heavy duty enough for a high traffic commercial opening?
It is a Grade 1 commercial mortise lock. The case is cold rolled steel with corrosion resistant zinc dichromate plating, the latch and deadbolt are stainless steel, and the levers are zinc. Grade 1 is the highest ANSI/BHMA duty level for locksets, which is what most institutional and multifamily specs call for on corridor and service doors.
11) What are the alternatives to the Schlage PM080 if I need a Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock from another brand?
Two direct peers we carry: the Accentra 8805FL Grade 1 storeroom mortise lock with Arcadia lever from the 8800 Series, and the Cal-Royal NM8080 Grade 1 storeroom mortise lockset, which lists a 1-3/4 inch door thickness and an interchangeable core option. Both are mechanical storeroom function like the PM080. If the spec is a different function rather than a different brand, the Cal-Royal NM8070 is the classroom version and the Corbin Russwin ML2003 is a Grade 1 classroom mortise lockset for 1-3/4 inch doors.
12) I want keypad or credential access on a storeroom door instead of a key. What should I look at instead of the PM080?
The PM080 is a mechanical keyed lock with no electronics, so it will not do codes or credentials. For an electronic mortise lock in the same door prep family, we carry the Schlage CO-100 standalone electronic mortise lock with keypad reader, the BEST 45HZ EZ Series keypad mortise lock with key override, the Alarm Lock Trilogy DL3500 Grade 1, and the TownSteel FME-2000 Grade 1 RFID mortise lockset. Note the Alarm Lock Trilogy bodies list a 1-5/8 to 1-7/8 inch door thickness range, so they are narrower on door thickness than the PM Series.
13) What if the door does not need to be keyed at all?
The PM080 is a keyed storeroom lock. For an unkeyed opening, the Falcon MA101 is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise passage lock with field reversible operation and a fire rating, and the Hager 3810S is a Grade 1 passage mortise lock with rose trim on a 2-3/4 inch backset. The Hager 3850E is an office function mortise lock with lever and escutcheon that is non-keyed.
14) Which of these mortise products look like alternatives to the PM080 but are not complete locksets?
Several mortise-family items are components rather than a storeroom lockset. The Sargent 130KB and 130W are mortise thumbturns, the Sargent 4874 is a double cylinder mortise deadbolt on a 2-3/4 inch backset with no lever, and the Emtek 3102 Memphis and 3106 Manhattan mortise entrance sets are dummy function. The BEST 45HCA public entrance and intruder items are lock bodies. The PM080 is a keyed storeroom mortise lock with lever trim.
15) For a behavioral health or ligature-resistant opening, what mortise lock should I use instead of the PM080?
The PM080 uses a standard Selena lever. For ligature-resistant applications, the TownSteel MRX-L-01 is a Grade 1 heavy duty anti-ligature lever mortise lockset in stainless steel with passage function, and the MRX-A-01 is the same passage function with satin stainless arch trim. The Marks USA 5PDN is a Grade 1 hospital passage mortise push/pull paddleset that is ligature resistant and ADA compliant.
16) Is there a privacy function mortise lock to pair with PM080 storeroom locks in the same building?
Yes. For restroom and bedroom doors, the Cal-Royal NM8440 is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lockset with deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Hager 3840S is a Grade 1 privacy mortise lock on a 2-3/4 inch backset for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, the same backset the PM080 uses.
17) Can I use an aluminum storefront electronic mortise lock in place of the PM080?
They serve different doors. The PM080 is a commercial mortise lock with a 2-3/4 inch backset and 1-3/4 inch door thickness. The Alarm Lock DL1300NW Trilogy Networx wireless electronic mortise lock is built for Adams Rite deadlatches, and the Dormakaba E-Plex E2066 is a wide stile electronic pushbutton mortise lock. Those suit narrow and wide stile aluminum openings rather than a standard mortise-prepped commercial door.
18) What else in the Schlage PM Series can I standardize on besides storeroom?
The PM Series covers 26 functions, including three electrified options and four mortise deadbolt functions, all on the same case and trim platform. So you can put storeroom on service rooms, and other functions on offices and classrooms, and keep one lever style, rose style and finish across the whole building. The PM080 itself is mechanical, not electrified.
19) Is there anything on the PM080 trim that meets ADA requirements?
Schlage states the thumbturn style used on the PM Series is ADA qualified. The lever handle itself is the operable part on a PM080 storeroom, and lever trim is what ADA openings call for rather than a knob.
20) What mortise lock covers an office or entrance opening where the lever should be lockable from inside?
The PM080 is storeroom function, keyed from outside with the inside lever always free. For an office or entrance opening, the Cal-Royal NM8050 is a Grade 1 heavy duty office/entrance mortise lockset with auxiliary deadlatch for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Baldwin 6301LS is a lever by lever entry/apartment mortise lock body on a 2-1/2 inch backset for 1-3/4 inch and over doors.
