1) Will the Schlage PM081 mortise lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or only 1-3/4?
Standard door thickness for the PM Series is 1-3/4 inches (44 mm), with 1-3/8 inches (35 mm) the minimum it will work on. The case also fits doors up to 2-1/2 inches thick, but anything over 1-3/4 has to be specified at order time along with the lock's position in the door. Backset is 2-3/4 inches only, so the door has to be prepped for that.
2) Do I have to order the Schlage PM081 handed, or is it reversible in the field?
No handing to specify. The PM Series mortise case is field reversible, so one lock covers left or right hand openings and you set it on site.
3) How does a storeroom function mortise lock behave on the door?
Storeroom is the classic secure-side function: the outside lever stays locked at all times and only the key retracts the latch, while the inside lever is always free for egress. That makes it right for mechanical rooms, stock rooms, IT closets and utility spaces where you never want the door left unlocked. It is a keyed lock, so a cylinder is part of the order.
4) Does the PM081 come with a cylinder, or do I order the core separately?
That depends on the cylinder option you pick. Five choices exist: B (less SFIC), J (less FSIC), L (less conventional 6-pin), P (conventional 6-pin cylinder, keyed 5) and T (FSIC construction core). Only P ships keyed and ready to go. The B, J and L prefixes are prepped to take a core or cylinder you supply from your own key system, and T gives you a temporary construction core to swap out at turnover.
