Metallics JFSC121 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the JFSC121 socket cap screw sit flush with the surface?
Yes. The JFSC121 is a flat head socket cap screw, so it seats into a countersunk hole and finishes flush with the material surface. That countersink has to be there already; if your hole is a plain straight bore, you want a standard (cylindrical) head socket cap screw instead, which sits proud of the surface.
2) How is the JFSC121 driven, and what tool do I need?
It is a socket head screw, so it is driven with a hex key (Allen wrench) in the recess of the head, not a screwdriver or a wrench on the outside. Socket drive is what lets a flat head screw be pulled down hard into a countersink without a wrench flat sticking up above the surface.
3) Are these black steel socket screws suitable for outdoor or wet locations?
The JFSC121 is plain steel with a black finish, not stainless and not galvanized, so treat it as an indoor and dry-location fastener. For exterior mounting, a wet well, or anywhere washdown or condensation is a factor, specify a stainless or hot-dip galvanized 1/2-13 screw instead.
