Metallics JSS121334SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many screws come in a jar of Metallics JSS121334SS?
The JSS121334SS 1/2-13 x 3/4 set screw is packaged 100 pieces to a jar, which is how Metallics sells it. If you are setting shaft collars, pulleys, or bus clamps across a building, one jar covers a fleet of them rather than ordering loose pieces.
2) What is a cup point set screw used for, and when should I pick a different point?
A cup point bites into the shaft or part with a ring-shaped edge, which gives strong holding on a round shaft and is the default choice for collars, sheaves, and clamp bodies. It does mar the surface, so where you need to remove and reseat a part repeatedly without marking it, a flat point is the better pick, and a cone point is used for permanent location into a drilled spot. The JSS121334SS is the cup point version in 1/2-13 x 3/4.
3) Do I need a hex key or a screwdriver for the JSS121334SS?
It's a socket drive set screw, so it takes a hex key, not a screwdriver. Headless socket set screws seat fully below the surface of the part, which is why they are used where nothing can protrude past the hub or clamp body.
