Metallics JRBWS20 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size and drive is the Metallics JRBWS20 wood screw?
The JRBWS20 is a #8 by 3 inch wood screw with a round head and a slotted drive, in brass. One part number covers the whole description: 8 x 3 RH SL WS BR.
2) How many screws come in a jar of Metallics JRBWS20?
Each jar holds 100 of the #8 x 3 inch brass round head slotted wood screws. The jar pack is how this item is supplied, so quantities are ordered in multiples of 100.
3) Do I need a Phillips bit for the Metallics JRBWS20, or a flat blade?
Flat blade. These are slotted screws, so they drive with a straight-tip screwdriver or a slotted bit, not a Phillips. Brass is a soft material, so a correctly sized blade that fills the slot keeps you from chewing the head.
4) Should I pre-drill before driving a #8 x 3 inch brass wood screw?
Yes, pilot it. Brass screws in a 3 inch length will twist off or strip the slot if they are driven dry into hardwood. Drill a pilot for the threads, and in dense stock run a steel screw of the same #8 x 3 size through first, then back it out and set the brass one.
