Metallics SPK100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the screws in the Metallics SPK100 kit fit standard switch and outlet plates?
Yes. The SPK100 kit is built around 6-32 thread switch plate screws, which is the standard machine screw thread for device plates on US wiring devices. Thread count is 32 per inch, and the kit carries both 1/2 inch and 1-1/4 inch lengths so you can mount a flush plate or reach back through a thick wall covering or a recessed box.
2) Does the Metallics SPK100 screw kit meet Buy American or ARRA requirements for a government job?
No. The SPK100 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant; country of origin is listed as multiple. If your project carries domestic sourcing language, this kit will not satisfy it.
3) What colors are included in the Metallics SPK100 switch plate screw assortment?
The 1/2 inch oval head screws come 50 each in black, nickel, almond, ivory and white, so you can match most common plate colors without a second trip. The remaining 25 pieces are 1-1/4 inch flat head slotted screws in zinc plate, which are the longer ones used where the box sits deep. Total is 275 pieces.
4) I manage apartment turnovers and keep losing switch plate screws. Is a kit like this worth stocking on the truck?
That is exactly what the SPK100 is for. It is sold as a renovation assortment in a tray pack, 275 screws covering the five colors you actually meet on existing plates plus a longer zinc screw for deep boxes. One kit on the van handles paint-fouled or missing screws across a whole building without carrying five separate boxes. Minimum order is 1 each.
5) Are the Metallics SPK100 screws oval head or flat head?
Both, and the split matters. The 1/2 inch color-finished screws are oval head, which is what sits correctly in a standard dished plate hole. The 25 longer 1-1/4 inch screws are flat head with a slotted drive, zinc plated. All are steel.
6) Can I get the Metallics SPK100 screws in a single length or color in bulk instead of the mixed kit?
Other sizes and quantities are available by request. If you are standardizing a whole building on white plates, bulk 6-32 x 1/2 in one color makes more sense than the assortment; the SPK100 is aimed at service and renovation work where you do not know what finish is on the next plate.
