Metallics TP104SFC – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need a special bit for the hex pin tamper-resistant screw head on the Metallics TP104SFC?
Yes. The TP104SFC uses a hex pin tamper-resistant head, meaning a hex socket with a pin in the center. A standard hex key or Allen bit will not engage it. You need a pin-in-hex (pin-hex) driver bit sized to the recess, ordered separately.
2) Why would I use a tamper-resistant machine screw instead of a standard Phillips screw?
Tamper-resistant heads like the hex pin on the TP104SFC are specified where you do not want the public opening the assembly: restrooms, detention and behavioral health spaces, transit, schools, and exposed electrical or device covers in common areas. Functionally it fastens the same as a standard 6-32 machine screw of the same 1-1/2 inch length; the only difference is that removal needs the matching pin-hex bit. If the location is secure and only staff have access, a standard drive screw is cheaper to service.
3) Will a flat head screw sit flush in my cover plate?
Only if the plate or part has a countersunk (chamfered) hole. The TP104SFC is a flat head, which seats flush in a countersink. On a plate with a straight, un-countersunk hole the head will stand proud; for that you want a pan or round head instead.
4) Is the 1-1/2 inch length too long for a standard device box?
At 1-1/2 inches, this 6-32 screw is a long-reach machine screw. It is used where the screw has to bridge a deep assembly, a mud ring, or a thick plate before picking up the tapped hole. For a flush device mounted straight to a box, that extra length will bottom out or protrude behind the strap, so measure your stack-up first and step down to a shorter 6-32 if the reach is under an inch.
5) How many screws come in a pack of Metallics TP104SFC?
They are packed 100 pieces per box, so one pack covers a run of devices or covers rather than a single fixture. There is one orderable model on the TP104SFC, part number TP104SFC.
