1) Do I need a special bit to install the TP210SFC tamper resistant screw?
Yes. The TP210SFC uses a star drive with a center pin, so a standard Torx bit will not seat. You need a pin-in-star (tamper resistant Torx) bit with the matching hollow center. Order the driver bits along with the screws if your techs don't already carry them.
2) Are these Metallics machine screws stainless and okay for outdoor or damp locations?
They're 18-8 stainless steel, the common 300-series austenitic grade used for general corrosion resistance. That makes them suitable for damp and exterior enclosure work where a plain steel screw would rust, though 18-8 is not the grade to pick for direct saltwater immersion.
3) Will the TP210SFC sit flush in a countersunk hole?
It's a flat head screw, so it's made to sit flush in an 82-degree countersunk hole. If your plate or cover is punched with a straight through-hole and no countersink, the head will stand proud and you want a pan or truss head instead.
4) Why use a pin-in-star stainless machine screw instead of a standard Phillips screw on cover plates?
Security. In schools, transit areas, correctional work, and public restrooms, a Phillips or slotted cover screw comes out with anything in a pocket. The pin-in-star head on the TP210SFC can't be turned without the matching hollow pin bit, which keeps covers, device plates, and enclosure fronts on. Pair that with 18-8 stainless and you also get corrosion resistance for exterior or washdown locations. The tradeoff is the 2 inch length and 8-32 thread: it only works where you have an 8-32 tapped hole or nut deep enough behind it.
