1) What driver do I need for the TP125SFC hex pin screws?
A hex pin (pin-in-hex) bit. The recess is a hex socket with a solid pin in the center, so a standard hex key or Allen bit will not seat, it bottoms out on the pin. You need a security hex pin driver sized for a #8 screw head. Order the bit at the same time if your techs don't already carry one, as these cannot be driven with common tooling.
2) Can I use these on exterior or damp-location electrical enclosures?
The TP125SFC is a stainless machine screw, which handles outdoor and damp conditions better than a plated carbon steel screw. Keep in mind the 3/8 inch length is short, so it suits thin covers and plates, not thick gasketed hoods that need more thread engagement.
3) Will a 3/8 inch screw be long enough for my cover plate?
At 3/8 inch of total length under the flat head, you get roughly 3/8 inch of thread to work with, minus the cover thickness. On a typical sheet metal cover or device plate that leaves plenty of engagement in a tapped boss. If you are going through a thicker plate, a spacer, or a gasket stack, step up to a longer 8-32 screw instead, this one will not reach.
4) Does the flat head on these screws sit flush?
Yes, provided the hole is countersunk. A flat head needs an 82 degree countersink or a pre-formed conical seat to pull down flush. In a plain drilled hole the head will stand proud and clamp on its edge, which is why panel and plate preps for these are countersunk. Use a pan or truss head screw instead if your hole isn't.
5) Are these self-tapping or do I need a tapped hole?
Machine screws, not self-tappers. The 8-32 thread is a straight machine thread, so it needs a tapped #8-32 hole, a nut, or a threaded boss. If you are fastening into bare sheet metal with no prep you want a self-drilling or sheet metal screw instead, these will not form their own thread.
6) Why specify tamper-resistant screws on an electrical cover instead of standard ones?
