Three configurations, all active IR with an SPDT output. The 474 is a single gang sensor. The 474D is the double gang version, for a two gang box or where you are mounting alongside another device. The 474M is single gang with a manual override, so someone can still trigger the door by hand if the wave sensor is not picked up. Pick 474M anywhere you need a fallback push, 474D where the box is already two gang.
2) How close does your hand have to be to activate an SDC 470 Series wave sensor?
The activation range is adjustable from 2 to 7 inches. Dial it short in a busy corridor so passing traffic does not false trigger, or out to 7 inches at a healthcare or clean room door where staff are pushing carts and want a wide wave. It is an active IR sensor, so it does not depend on ambient light levels.

5) Is an SDC 470 Series sensor a safety sensor for an automatic door?
No. The 470 Series is an activation switch, it tells the operator to open. It does not detect a person in the path of a moving door. Presence and safety detection is a separate device, such as the LCN 8310 Series door mount safety sensor with leading edge detection. On a swing operator you generally need both: the wave switch to trigger, the safety sensor to protect the swing path.
6) Will an SDC 470 Series touchless switch hold up in a hospital or food service environment where it gets cleaned constantly?
