SECURITRON FAR FIRE ALARM RESET

The FAR module is designed to work in conjunction with the Securitron® BPS and BPSM series power supplies and a fire alarm panel (by others). Whenever the FAR receives a signal from the fire alarm it will switch off the output of the BPS/BPSM power supply. The power supply will stay in this mode until a manual reset is instituted by turning the keyswitch mounted in the face of the FAR module. This feature is required in certain jurisdictions to prevent the access control system from automatically (when the fire alarm is reset) relocking doors during an evacuation.

Provides functionality beyond a standard fire trigger relay when local code requires manual reset after a fire alarm. This self-contained unit interfaces to a fire alarm unit to cut power to devices downstream of the power supply in an alarm situation. The power stays off until the FAR’s Keyswitch is manually reset. This feature is required by some jurisdictions to prevent the unintentional re-arming of doors until the fire alarm is reset and power is restored to the access control system during an ongoing emergency.

1) What does the Securitron FAR fire alarm reset actually do in an access control system?
The FAR module sits between a fire alarm panel and a Securitron BPS or BPSM power supply. When the fire alarm panel sends a signal, the FAR switches off the power supply output, dropping power to every locking device downstream. It stays off until someone turns the keyswitch on the face of the module. 3) Do I still need a fire alarm panel, or does the FAR detect the alarm itself?
The FAR is an interface, not a detector. A fire alarm panel is supplied by others and provides the trigger signal; the FAR takes that signal and cuts the power supply output. You need the fire panel, a Securitron BPS or BPSM power supply, and the FAR to make the arrangement work.

Securitron makes a CFAR version to meet Canadian fire release requirements. The standard FAR-12 and FAR-24 are the US models; if the job is in a Canadian jurisdiction, specify the CFAR instead.
8) How do I tell at a glance whether the FAR has tripped and the locks are unpowered?
There is a bi-color LED on the front cover. Green means power is on and the system is live; red means the output is off and the locks are released. For a property manager or guard walking the panel room, that is the quick check after an alarm event.
9) How much room do I need to mount a Securitron FAR module?
The FAR enclosure measures 5.25 by 2.5 inches, so it takes very little wall or backboard space next to the power supply. It is a metal enclosure with a security cam lock on it.
