Steel City SSF-SR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Steel City SSF-SR do on a single gang device?
The SSF-SR is a single gang device leveler and retainer. It holds the wiring device square and level in the opening while it is fastened, so the plate sits flat against the wall surface. It is a mounting and support accessory, not a box or a plate itself.
2) Will the SSF-SR work for a two gang or three gang opening?
No. The SSF-SR is a single gang device leveler and retainer only. For multi gang openings you need the corresponding multi gang leveler, not this part.
3) Is the SSF-SR sold individually or by the box?
The selling unit on the SSF-SR is each, so quantity is counted per piece. Electrical contractors stocking a van or a job trailer typically order in round counts against the device count on the drawing.
4) What type of wall construction is the Steel City SSF-SR intended for?
It is classed as a stud wall and drywall support, so it is meant for device mounting in framed walls with drywall finish rather than for masonry or poured concrete applications.
5) How do I order the right Steel City single gang leveler by part number?
Order by manufacturer part number SSF-SR from Steel City. That is the single gang device leveler and retainer; there is one model, so there is no finish, size, or handing to specify with it.
6) Is the Steel City SSF-SR made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin on the SSF-SR is the United States. That matters on public and institutional jobs carrying domestic sourcing requirements.
