The Sioux Chief 239 is an ABS automatic vent (air admittance valve) built for secondary venting on drain, waste, and vent (DWV) rough-in installations. It connects via a 1-1/2" MIP (male iron pipe thread) fitting and uses an internal sealing disc to admit air into the drain line, relieving negative pressure in the trap without cutting a dedicated vent stack penetration through the roof or an exterior wall. Because it opens and closes with pressure changes in the line, it lets a plumber vent a fixture that is too far from the main stack to vent conventionally. This vent is for secondary venting only — every drainage system must still have its own main vent stack — and it must be installed where it has free access to open air.
