Sioux Chief 901-03163W02005 Polyethylene Tubing, 1/2" OD x 3/8" ID, White, 200FT Reel

The Sioux Chief 901-03163W02005 polyethylene tubing is a rough-in plumbing product sized 1/2" OD x 3/8" ID with a 1/16" wall, supplied in white on a continuous 200FT reel. This PE tube is manufactured from low-density polyethylene to exact specifications from FDA-listed material, giving installers a consistent, dependable tube for behind-the-wall and under-floor rough-in work. Polyethylene naturally resists cracking, which makes this tubing well suited for use as drinking water supply lines and pneumatic control lines on residential and commercial jobs. The 200FT reel format lets plumbers and contractors pull long, splice-free tubing runs straight off the coil, cutting down on connections and installation time on the jobsite.

Sioux Chief 901-03103W01005 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can this polyethylene tubing be used for a drinking water supply line?
Yes. The Sioux Chief 901 PE tubing is made from low-density polyethylene manufactured from FDA-listed material, and it is intended for drinking water supply lines as well as pneumatic control lines on residential and commercial rough-in work.
2) What wall thickness is the 1/2 inch Sioux Chief PE tubing, and will it fit standard 1/2 inch tube fittings?
The 1/2 inch OD x 3/8 inch ID size runs a 1/16 inch wall, consistent down the full 200 ft reel. Because it is dimensioned on the outside diameter, it lands on standard 1/2 inch OD rough-in tube fittings. Note the ID is 3/8 inch, so do not size it against 1/2 inch nominal pipe.
3) Is the Sioux Chief 901 tubing the same thing as PEX?
No. The 901 is low-density polyethylene tube sized by OD (3/8 or 1/2 inch) with a 1/16 inch wall, used for drinking water supply lines and pneumatic control lines. It is not cross-linked PEX and it does not take PEX crimp or expansion fittings or PEX nominal sizing. If your drawing calls for PEX water distribution, this is the wrong product.
4) Is this PE tubing OK to run behind a wall or under a floor without splices?
That is what the reel format is for. Polyethylene resists cracking, so the tube holds up once it is closed in behind walls or under floors, and pulling off a continuous 100 ft or 200 ft reel lets you run the full length with no intermediate joints. Fewer connections in a concealed run means fewer places to leak.
5) Which size should I pick for an ice maker or humidifier feed versus a longer utility run?
For small appliance feeds like an ice maker or humidifier, the 3/8 inch OD x 1/4 inch ID tube on the 100 ft reel is the usual pick, since 1/4 inch ID matches typical appliance supply fittings. For longer supply runs or pneumatic control lines where you want more flow and length off one coil, go to the 1/2 inch OD x 3/8 inch ID on the 200 ft reel.
6) What color is this tubing and does it come any other way?
White is the color on both the 100 ft and 200 ft reels of the Sioux Chief 901 PE tube. There is no other color offered in this run, so if you are color-coding lines on a job you will need to mark them yourself.
