1) Will a Square D LUB power base run a motor on its own, or do I need something else with it?
The LUB TeSys Ultra power base is only half of a starter. It holds the power contacts, the control coil, and the rotary handle, and it has to be completed with a Square D LUC control unit to become a working TeSys U starter controller. Without the LUC there is no overload protection or control function. Assembled that way it handles 3-phase motors up to 15kW at 400V.
2) Which LUB do I order for my motor, the 12A or the 32A?
Match the base to the motor's full-load amps. Two FLA ratings are offered: LUB12 and LUB32. Pick the one that covers your motor nameplate FLA, with the power side rated up to 32A Ie at 440V or less and 690V Ue operational voltage. The LUC control unit you pair with it sets the actual overload trip range.
3) Can I use the LUB power base for a reversing motor starter?
No. The LUB is a standard 3-pole, 3NO base built for non-reversing, 3-phase starter applications. A reversing duty needs a reversing power base instead, not this one.
