1) Can the Stanley QED114 be used on a pair of doors without a center mullion?
Yes. As a surface vertical rod device it latches at the head and the threshold rather than into a strike on the jamb, so a pair of doors can be secured with no center mullion. Each leaf gets its own device. If you would rather use rim devices on a pair, you need a removable mullion between them.
2) Does the Stanley QED114 come in an 8 foot door height, or only 7 foot?
Both. The QED114 is offered for 7ft and 8ft door heights, in 36 inch and 48 inch device widths, and the rods are field sizeable. On an 8ft opening order the 8ft door size so the vertical rods reach the head and sill.
3) Is the Stanley QED114 handed, or do I have to specify left and right?
Non-handed. The QED114 is field reversible, so one device covers either hand and you do not specify handing on the order. That also makes it easier to stock a single spare for a building with doors swinging both ways.
4) Can I put a Stanley QED114 on a fire rated stairwell door?
Yes, it carries a UL/cUL 3-hour listing for A label doors. One caution on fire doors: mechanical dogging cannot be used on a fire rated opening, so the hex-key dogging feature must be left undogged there. Dogging is for non-rated doors you want to hold in push-pull during business hours.

Cylinder prep is a conventional cylinder, and the keying choices are BF-SFIC F, KW Kwikset, WE Weiser, SC Schlage, GA Yale, LA Sargent, or LC less cylinder. If the building is already keyed on a Schlage or Sargent system, order that keyway and it can be keyed into the existing masterkey system. Choose LC if your locksmith is supplying cylinders.
6) What is the difference between hex-key dogging and cylinder dogging on the QED100 Series?
Hex-key dogging is standard on the QED114: an Allen wrench holds the pushbar depressed so the door pushes free. Cylinder dogging is available as an option and lets authorized staff dog the device with a key instead of a loose hex wrench, which is what most schools and offices prefer when a wrench tends to walk off. Specify cylinder dogging at order time.
7) What mounting hardware ships with the Stanley QED114 exit device?
Wood screws, machine screws, and sex bolts are included, and the trim is thru-bolted for strength. Head and end caps are zinc die-cast. What is not in the box is the cylinder if you order LC less cylinder, and any outside trim, which is selected separately.
