Product details

Security:

Get premium security performance options like delayed action and a back check valve standard with the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 QDC100 Series.

Construction:

With cast iron body construction, cold-forged pinion shaft and forged steel arms, the QDC100 stands up to heavy use over the long term. Innovative construction features like staked valves prevent oil leaks from screws being accidentally backed out too far. And, it’s engineered with all-weather fluid.

Applications

The QDC100 is a cost-effective option ideal for heavy duty applications such as institutional and industrial environments.

A variety of arm types and stop options and non-handed and universal mount design to make it easy to stock and use in a wide variety of applications.

There's no need to re-prep your door. The QDC100 has the same footprint, bolt pattern and rounded cover as the LCN4040 so it's a simple off-and-on exchange.

Stanley Security QDC100 M 689 LH – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the QDC100 closer replace an LCN 4040 without re-drilling the door?
Yes. The QDC100 uses the same footprint, bolt pattern and rounded cover as the LCN 4040, so it goes on the existing prep as a direct off-and-on exchange. That is the main reason facilities standardizing away from an existing 4040 fleet pick it.
2) Does the Stanley QDC100 door closer come with arms?
No. This is the closer body with a full-size metal cover only, no arm included. You order the arm separately, and the QDC100 family offers 10 arm options across two arm types, a tri-pack arm and an extra duty arm, with different stop configurations. Decide arm and stop type before you order or the closer will land on site unable to be hung.
3) Is the QDC100 closer handed?
The closer body itself is non-handed and universal mount, so one body covers left and right openings. The exception is QDC116 arms, which are handed, along with metal covers. Order forms still ask for left or right hand on this body with metal cover, so specify the opening.
4) What spring size range does the QDC100 cover, and will it handle a wide exterior door?
Spring power is adjustable across sizes 1 through 6, so one closer covers everything from a narrow interior door up to a heavy, wide exterior opening. It is a heavy duty, Grade 1 cast iron closer built for institutional and industrial traffic.
5) Is the QDC100 fire rated and ADA compliant for a hospital or school corridor?
The QDC100 is UL/cUL listed to UL10c and UL10b, and meets ANSI/BHMA A156.4 and ANSI A117.1, the accessibility standard. A Barrier Free option is also available when the opening has to meet reduced opening force requirements.
6) Will this closer mount on a hollow metal frame and an aluminum storefront door?
Yes on both. The QDC100 mounts to wood, aluminum, or hollow metal doors and frames, and can go pull side or push side. Wood and machine screws come standard, along with sex nuts and self-reaming, self-tapping screws, which covers hollow metal and through-bolted wood applications without a separate fastener order.
7) I need a hold open arm - does the QDC100 closer body cover that, or should I look at another closer?
The QDC100 offered here is the closer body with a full metal cover and no arms, so the arm and stop behavior is chosen separately from the ten arm options in the series. If you would rather buy a closer that arrives configured for hold open, the Accentra 51 Series is an industrial closer with a tri-packed hold open arm in sizes 1 through 6, and the Orca Hardware BHDC1958HO/PA pairs a tri-packed hold open arm with a parallel bracket for 1-3/4 inch doors.
8) What is the closest heavy duty Grade 1 alternative to the Stanley Security QDC100 closer?
The QDC100 is a Grade 1 heavy duty surface mounted closer with an adjustable spring range of sizes 1 through 6. The closest peers on those same points are the BEST EHD9000 Series, an extra heavy-duty Grade 1 surface closer with adjustable spring sizes 1-6, and the Sargent 1431 Powerglide, a Grade 1 heavy duty surface closer with adjustable spring power. The Falcon SC71A Series is also a Grade 1 heavy-duty surface-mount closer. Any of the three covers the same institutional and industrial traffic the QDC100 is built for.
9) I want a cast iron closer body like the QDC100 but from another brand - what else is cast iron?
The QDC100 uses a cast iron body with a cold-forged pinion shaft and all-weather fluid. Among the comparable closers, the Sargent 281 Powerglide is a cast iron surface door closer with heavy-duty construction, and the LCN 1261 is a surface-mounted closer with cast iron construction and adjustable spring sizes 1 through 5. The LCN 1261 is rated light to medium duty, so for the same heavy duty service as the QDC100 the Sargent 281 is the closer match.
10) What should I use instead of the QDC100 on a narrow top rail or a slide track application?
The QDC100 mounts pull side or push side with a conventional arm and a full-size metal cover. When the opening calls for a track instead, the Corbin Russwin DC5230 is a Grade 1 surface closer supplied with a slide track arm as standard for pull side mounting on 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Dorma 8916-JT is a Grade 1 heavy duty closer with a jamb track for frame face, pull side mounting in adjustable sizes 1 through 6.
11) We are replacing LCN 4040 closers across a building - what are my options besides the QDC100?
The QDC100 was built for that swap: it uses the same footprint, bolt pattern and rounded cover as the LCN 4040, so it goes on without re-prepping the door, and it is non-handed with a universal mount. If you prefer to stay within the LCN line, the 1460T is a heavy duty Grade 1 surface-mounted closer in a powder coat finish. Other heavy duty Grade 1 surface closers to weigh are the Sargent 1431 Powerglide and the BEST EHD9000 Series in sizes 1 through 6.
12) Is there a barrier free alternative to the QDC100 for an ADA opening?
The QDC100 can be ordered as a barrier free configuration and is listed to ANSI A117.1 along with ANSI/BHMA A156.4. Comparable barrier free choices include the Cal-Royal 500S, a Grade 1 barrier free closer with adjustable back-check, the Cal-Royal N900PBF barrier free Grade 1 hydraulic surface closer, and the Calibre CA9901, a Grade 1 ADA surface mount closer with a tri-pack arm in sizes 2 through 5.
13) Does the QDC100 have delayed action and backcheck, or are those extra?
Delayed action is offered as a security performance option and a back check valve is standard on the QDC100 Series. Backcheck is what protects the door and frame in a windy exterior opening; delayed action is what you want on an accessible entry or a door people push carts through.
14) Will the QDC100 leak oil or stiffen up on an exterior door in winter?
It is filled with all-weather fluid, so closing speed stays consistent through temperature swings on exterior openings. The valves are staked, which stops adjustment screws being backed all the way out and causing a leak, a common failure on doors that get repeatedly re-tuned by maintenance staff.
15) What are the alternatives to the QDC100 if I want a Grade 1 heavy duty closer from another brand?
Comparable heavy duty Grade 1 surface closers include the BEST EHD9000 Series and HD8000 Series, the Falcon SC71A, the Sargent 1431 Powerglide and the cast iron Sargent 281, and the LCN 1460T. If the door is lighter traffic, the BEST HD7000 is medium duty and the LCN 1250 is light duty. What the QDC100 offers that those do not is the LCN 4040 bolt pattern match for a no-re-prep swap.
16) The opening is interior, low traffic - is there a lighter closer than the QDC100?
Yes. The QDC100 is a heavy duty Grade 1 closer aimed at institutional and industrial openings. For lighter interior service, the BEST SL6000 Series is a Grade 1 light duty surface closer with adjustable spring sizes, the Arrow DC314 in the DC300 Series is a Grade 1 light duty surface closer, and the Norton Rixson 160 Series is a Grade 1 light duty surface closer with an adjustable spring. The Falcon SC81A is a Grade 1 medium duty cast aluminum closer if you want something between the two.
17) Is the Arrow DCN325 a direct substitute for the QDC100 since both adjust across sizes 1-6?
They share the adjustable range but not the service class. The QDC100 is a heavy duty Grade 1 closer with a cast iron body, and it ships with a full-size metal cover. The Arrow DCN325 is a Grade 1 surface closer with a regular/parallel tri-pack arm and adjustable spring sizes 1 through 6, but it is rated light duty and is supplied less cover. On an institutional or industrial opening, match the QDC100 with a heavy duty peer such as the BEST HD8000 Series, a Grade 1 heavy duty surface closer.
18) Is the Cal-Royal 400 Series an acceptable stand-in for the QDC100?
Only if the specification allows a lower grade. The QDC100 is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 Grade 1 and is UL/cUL listed to UL10c and UL10b for fire door use, while the Cal-Royal 400 Series is a Grade 2 commercial hydraulic closer. If the drawing calls for Grade 1, stay with a Grade 1 peer such as the Cal-Royal 700S dual valve sized closer or the Dexter DCH1000 Series tri-mount surface closer with a full cover.
19) What other closers mount three ways like the QDC100 so I can stock one part for a whole building?
The QDC100 is non-handed with a universal mount and installs pull side or push side on wood, aluminum or hollow metal doors and frames, which is why it stocks well. Peers built on the same idea include the Norton Rixson 8501A, a Grade 1 tri-mount surface closer with an adjustable size 1-6 spring, the Norton Rixson 1600 Series Grade 1 tri-mount closer with 180 degree swing, and the Dexter DCH4000 Series, a Grade 1 surface closer that mounts regular, parallel or top jamb.
20) What is a comparable heavy duty closer that already includes the arm in the same order?
The QDC100 body ships without arms so the arm and stop type are specified separately. If you want one line item that arrives complete, the Design Hardware 416 Series is a heavy duty closer supplied with a tri-packed non-hold open arm, the Design Hardware 116 Series is the same arrangement in a heavy duty body, and the Accentra 2701 Series is an architectural closer with tri-pack mounting and adjustable spring sizes 1 through 6, matching the QDC100 size range.
21) What finishes does the QDC100 metal cover come in?
Three: 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze, and 696 satin brass. 689 and 690 are the usual matches for aluminum storefront and bronze-anodized entrances; 696 is the one to pick when the rest of the opening hardware is brass-toned.
22) Is the QDC100 suitable for residential use?
It is a commercial closer. Cast iron body, cold-forged pinion shaft and forged steel arms, aimed at institutional and industrial openings that see constant traffic. For a light residential or light commercial door, that level of spring power and body mass is more than the opening needs and a light duty closer like the Falcon SC91A is the closer class to look at instead.
23) Does a drop plate like the Arrow DCN500DP work with the QDC100?
No. The Arrow DCN500DP is a parallel drop plate made specifically for the Arrow DCN500 closer, so it is an accessory for that body rather than a substitute part for the QDC100. The QDC100 arrives as the closer body with a full-size metal cover and no arms, and its mounting hardware is drawn from the series own arm and bracket options, which include wood and machine screws, sex nuts, and self-reaming self-tapping screws as standard.
