Product details

Security:

The QDC300 is ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certified, and significantly exceeds performance requirements. These closers are fully adjustable, with a barrier-free option to meet ADA requirements.

Construction:

Strong materials and careful design ensures QDC300 closers perform reliably over the long term. We engineered the QDC300 Series to be fully adjustable and usable on both interior and exterior doors. All-weather fluid, a variety of feature options, and non-handed and universal mount flexibility make it easy to stock and use the QDC300 in a wide variety of applications.

Applications

The QDC300 is a cost-effective option ideal for aluminum storefront applications due to its smaller closer body.

There's no need to re-prep your door. The QDC300 has the same footprint as the Norton 1600 Series, so it's quick and easy to retrofit.

Stanley Security QDC300 F 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Stanley Security QDC300 closer come with arms, or do I have to order those separately?
The QDC300 as configured here is the closer body only, no arms. You pick the arm separately, and the series offers 4 arm options covering different arm and stop types. Budget for the arm and any drop plate or bracket your mounting condition needs before the job goes out.
2) Will a QDC300 drop into the holes left by a Norton 1600 closer?
Yes. The QDC300 body shares the same footprint as the Norton 1600 Series, so an existing 1600 prep can be reused without re-drilling the door. That is the main reason it gets specified on retrofit work in buildings already standardized on 1600s.
3) Do I need to specify handing when ordering a QDC300 door closer?
No handing to call out. The QDC300 is non-handed, and it mounts on either the pull side or the push side, so a single body covers left hand and right hand openings. For a property manager stocking spares that means one part number on the shelf instead of two.
4) Is the Stanley QDC300 closer approved for a fire rated door?
It is UL and cUL listed, including UL10c and UL10b, which are the positive pressure and neutral pressure fire door test standards. It also certifies to ANSI/BHMA A156.4 as a Grade 1 closer. Note that hold open is not permitted on a fire door unless it releases on alarm, so order a non-hold-open arm for rated openings.
5) What does the Barrier Free option do on the QDC300, and do I need it?
Barrier Free is the reduced opening force build for ADA compliance, and the series certifies to ANSI A117.1. Order it for accessible entrances, restrooms, and any interior opening where the code official will check opening force with a gauge. On a windy exterior entrance the standard build often makes more sense, since a barrier free spring can struggle to close the door against pressure.
6) What is the closest equivalent to the Stanley QDC300 closer from another brand?
The QDC300 Series is a Grade 1, medium duty surface mounted closer with adjustable spring sizes 1 to 6 and non-handed, pull side or push side mounting. The Norton Rixson 1601P is the nearest match on those points: it is a Grade 1, medium duty 1600 Series closer with tri-mount design. The QDC300 is described as sharing the same footprint as the Norton 1600 Series, so it drops onto an existing 1600 prep without re-prepping the door. The Sargent 1331 is another Grade 1 medium duty closer with a universal aluminum body, and the BEST HD7000 Series is Grade 1 medium duty with adjustable spring power and backcheck control.
7) I need something heavier than the QDC300 for a high traffic exterior entrance. What should I look at?
The QDC300 Series is rated medium duty and covers exterior doors 32 to 48 inches wide. For a heavier build on a high traffic opening, the BEST EHD9000 Series is an extra heavy-duty Grade 1 closer with adjustable spring sizes 1 to 6, the Sargent 1431 Powerglide is a Grade 1 heavy duty surface closer with adjustable spring power, and the Falcon SC71A is a Grade 1 heavy-duty surface-mount closer. The Norton Rixson 1600BC is a Grade 1 heavy duty closer built for aluminum storefront with tri-style mounting if the opening is a storefront.
8) Which Grade 1 closers besides the QDC300 offer a barrier free or ADA option?
The QDC300 can be ordered with a Barrier Free option and is listed to ANSI A117.1 alongside ANSI/BHMA A156.4. Comparable Grade 1 choices with the same intent are the Cal-Royal 500S, a Grade 1 barrier free closer with adjustable back-check, the Cal-Royal N900PBF 900 Series barrier free Grade 1 hydraulic closer, the Calibre CA4001 with adjustable spring tension for ADA, and the Imperial USA TC4300 Series, a heavy duty size 1 to 6 ADA closer.
9) The QDC300 comes with no arms. What closers include the arm in the box?
The QDC300 Series as configured here is the closer body without arms, so the arm and any stop or hold open function is selected separately. If you want a closer that arrives arm-included, the Accentra 1101BF ships with a tri-packed non-hold open arm, the Accentra 51 Series ships with a tri-packed hold open arm, the Arrow DCN325 includes regular and parallel arm tri-pack with adjustable size 1 to 6, and the Orca BHDC1958RA/PA comes as a regular arm with parallel bracket. For a hold open arm out of the box, the Orca BHDC1958HO/PA is supplied with a tri-packed hold open arm.
10) What looks like a substitute for the QDC300 but is not a true match?
Two things to watch. The Falcon SC91A is a surface-mount cast aluminum closer that looks similar but is rated Grade 3 light duty, so it will not satisfy a Grade 1 medium duty spec the QDC300 meets. The Cal-Royal 400 Series is a Grade 2 commercial hydraulic closer, again below the QDC300's Grade 1. Also note the Arrow DCN500DP is a parallel drop plate accessory for the DCN500, not a closer at all. If the drawing calls Grade 1 medium duty, stay with peers such as the Sargent 1131 or Dormakaba 7303, both Grade 1 medium duty surface closers.
11) Should I order the QDC300 with a full cover or without one?
Both builds exist: full-size cover, or no cover with the body exposed. Cover versions are the norm on lobby and public side openings where appearance counts. No-cover saves cost on back-of-house, mechanical, and stair doors and makes valve adjustment quicker for maintenance staff. Finish choices are 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze, and 696 satin brass across both.
12) Is the QDC300 a good closer for aluminum storefront doors?
Yes, that is where it fits best. The body is smaller and narrower than a typical commercial closer, which matters on a storefront door where the top rail is shallow. It is rated for both interior and exterior use with all-weather fluid, so it holds speed through cold weather on an entrance door.
13) What fasteners ship with the QDC300, and will they work on a hollow metal or wood door?
Wood and machine screws come standard, plus sex nuts and self-reaming, self-tapping screws. That covers wood doors, hollow metal, and through-bolting on doors that need it. No separate fastener pack to order for typical installs.
14) Is a medium duty closer like the QDC300 enough for a high traffic entrance, or should I step up?
The QDC300 is a medium duty Grade 1 closer, which suits typical commercial traffic, offices, multi-family corridors, and storefront entries. For an abusive opening, a school main entrance or a hospital corridor taking constant wind and carts, step to a heavy duty body such as the BEST EHD9000 Series or the Sargent 1431 Powerglide, both Grade 1 heavy duty. For light commercial interior work, the Arrow DCN325 covers spring sizes 1 to 6 in a light duty build.
15) Can I use the QDC300 closer body on a 1-3/8 inch interior door?
No. The QDC300 is specified for 1-3/4 inch doors, the standard commercial thickness. A 1-3/8 inch door, common in older residential and light interior work, is outside that range and the mounting and through-bolting will not land correctly.
16) Is there a lighter or simpler closer than the QDC300 for a low traffic interior door?
The QDC300 Series is a medium duty Grade 1 closer sized 1 to 6 and rated for interior doors 30 to 48 inches. For a lighter interior opening, the BEST SL6000 Series is a Grade 1 light duty surface closer with adjustable spring sizes, the LCN 1250 Series is a light duty closer in sizes 1 to 5 with all-weather fluid and ADA compliance, and the Arrow DCN314 is a light duty Grade 1 closer with regular and parallel arm tri-pack, adjustable size 1 to 4. The Cal-Royal 400 Series is a Grade 2 commercial hydraulic closer if Grade 1 is not required by the spec.
17) I need a slide track or concealed-look arm instead of a standard surface arm. Is the QDC300 the right choice?
The QDC300 Series mounts pull side or push side with conventional surface arm options and is aimed at aluminum storefront because of its narrow body. If the opening calls for a track arm, the Corbin Russwin DC5230 is a Grade 1 surface closer supplied with a slide track arm as standard for pull side mounting, and the Dorma 8916-JT is a Grade 1 heavy duty jamb track closer for frame face, pull side mounting with adjustable size 1 to 6. For a flat arm on a parallel application, the Dormakaba 8616 AF86P is a Grade 1 heavy duty closer with a flat non-hold open arm in a tri-pack.
18) For an aluminum storefront door, is the QDC300 the best fit or is there an alternative built for storefront?
The QDC300 Series is positioned for aluminum storefront because of its smaller, narrower closer body, and it is non-handed with pull side or push side mounting. The Norton Rixson 1600BC Series is the direct storefront alternative, a Grade 1 heavy duty aluminum storefront closer with tri-style mounting, if you want a heavier body on the same type of opening. The Falcon SC61A is a Grade 1 light to medium duty cast aluminum surface closer for a lighter storefront leaf.
19) The QDC300 is offered with or without a full-size cover. Which comparable closers come cover-included or less cover?
The QDC300 can be ordered with a full-size cover or with no cover, in 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze or 696 satin brass. Among comparables, the Dexter DCH1000 Series is a Grade 1 tri-mount surface closer supplied with a full cover, and the Design Hardware 316 Series is a medium to heavy duty closer supplied with a cover. If you want a less-cover closer, the Arrow DCN314 and DCN325 are both offered less cover with regular and parallel arm tri-pack.
