1) Can the Stanley Security QED313 exit device be dogged open during business hours?
No. The QED313 is the fire rated rim device in the QED300 series, and fire rated exit devices do not get dogging. If you need to hold the latch retracted for daytime traffic on a non-rated opening, order the QED311 (rim, hex key dogging) or the QED312 (rim, cylinder dogging) instead. Those two are the same rim platform without the fire rating.
2) Will a rim exit device work on my pair of doors, or do I need vertical rods?
A rim device like the QED313 latches into a strike on the frame or on a mullion, so on a pair of doors you need a mullion between the leaves. If the opening has to stay clear with no mullion, go to the surface vertical rod versions in the same series: QED316 is the fire rated surface vertical rod, QED319 is the fire rated surface vertical rod less bottom rod. Those latch at the head and threshold instead of the jamb.
3) What is the minimum stile width for the Stanley QED313 rim exit device?
3-7/8 inches minimum (98mm). That rules it out on true narrow stile aluminum storefront doors, which typically run closer to 2 inches. Measure the lock stile before ordering. The device mounts at a 2-1/4 inch backset (57mm) to the face of the doorstop.
4) Will the QED313 latch into the strike already on my frame?
Plan on using the strike that comes with it. The QED313 ships with a fire rated stainless steel strike with a stainless steel roller as standard, and the stainless latchbolt has a 3/4 inch throw (19mm). On a fire rated opening the device and its listed strike are a matched assembly, so reusing an old strike is not the move.
5) Is outside trim included with the QED313 exit device, or do I order it separately?
Trim is a separate selection. The QED300 series offers Sierra, Summit and Slate trim styles, with escutcheon functions in dummy, passage, keyed and night latch, and pull plate options in dummy, thumb-piece, night latch and flat plate. Decide whether the outside needs to be keyed, free entry, or pull-only before you place the order, because the exit device itself only handles egress.
6) Is the Stanley QED313 rated Grade 1, and how many cycles is it tested to?
The QED300 series carries BHMA/ANSI Grade 1 certification and is tested and certified to exceed the 500,000 cycles required for that grade. For a facility standardizing on Grade 1 hardware across stairwells and exits, it meets the spec.
7) What door thickness does the Stanley QED313 fit?
1-3/4 inches standard (44.5mm), which is the normal commercial door thickness on wood, hollow metal and aluminum leaves. The series is built for light commercial openings in all three materials.
8) Can I key the QED313 trim into my existing master key system?
Yes, within the keyways the series supports: BF-SFIC "F", KW Kwikset, WE Weiser, SC Schlage, GA Yale, LA Sargent, or LC less cylinder if your locksmith is supplying the cylinder from stock. Match the keyway to what the rest of the building already runs on so one key covers the openings.
