Metallics CST100P – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How many staples come in a pail of Metallics CST100P?
They ship as a pail of 1500 staples, and 1500 each is also the order minimum, so a pail is the smallest buy. Metallics notes other sizes and quantities can be had by request.
2) What makes an insulated cable staple different from a plain steel wire staple?
The CST100P is built from steel and plastic: a steel staple with a plastic saddle across the crown that bears on the cable jacket instead of letting bare metal bite into it. On an NM run you get less risk of crushing or nicking the jacket when the staple is driven slightly deep. A plain wire staple is cheaper per piece but puts steel directly on the sheath.
3) Will one 9/16 inch staple hold two cables stacked?
No. The CST100P has a 9/16 inch crown sized for a single #10, #12 or #14 cable. Stacking two runs under one staple compresses the jackets. Run each cable its own staple, or move to a wider multi-cable strap for stacked runs.
4) Are Metallics CST100P staples Buy American and ARRA compliant for a government job?
Both flags are marked compliant on the CST100P record, which matters on federally funded work. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your spec requires a single named origin on the submittal, that is the point to verify with the documentation that ships with the pail.
5) How heavy is a pail of CST100P staples to carry up to a jobsite floor?
A full pail runs 13.35 lbs and measures 8.12 x 8.5 x 6.37 inches, so it is a one-hand carry and fits on a gang box shelf or in a van bin without decanting.
6) Are these hand-driven staples or do they load in a stapler?
The CST100P is a 1-1/4 inch leg insulated cable staple supplied loose in a pail of 1500, not collated in a strip, so it is driven by hand with a hammer the way a loose plastic-saddle cable staple normally is. Pneumatic cable tackers take collated strips instead.
